This Grilled Honey Garlic Chicken is healthy and delicious with a sweet, sticky garlic glaze. It only takes 5 ingredients to make the marinade and cooks up in less than 10 minutes.

2 pounds chicken thighs (or chicken breast)
1/2 cup Honey
1/4 cup Soy Sauce
1 Tablespoon apple cider vinegar
3 cloves Garlic minced
1 small Lemon Juice from lemon
sesame seeds and green onions for garnish

Steps:

  • In a small bowl whisk honey, soy sauce, garlic and lemon. Reserve 1/4 cup of the sauce and add the rest of the sauce to the chicken in a medium sized bowl and let marinate for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the grill to medium high heat and Grill chicken, covered, over medium heat for 6-8 minutes on each side or until no longer pink. Baste occasionally with reserved marinade during the last 5 minutes. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds if desired.

This recipe calls for a whole chicken cut up, but feel free to use your favorite pieces. I like using the whole chicken because it gives everyone a choice. If you like your chicken saltier or spicy, add some seasoned salt before starting the grilling process. I find the soy sauce adds enough salt for me. Prep time does not include the time needed for your grill to get hot.

1/2 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup honey
1 teaspoon garlic powder
2 teaspoons dry mustard
1 teaspoon lemon rind, grated
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon seasoned pepper
1 whole chicken, cut up (3 to 3 1/2 lbs)

Steps:

  • Prepare your grill.
  • Combine all ingredients except the chicken, stirring well. Set sauce aside.
  • Grill the chicken, skin side down, over medium coals for 50 to 60 minutes or until done, turning every 10 minutes. Baste with the sauce during the last 20 minutes of grilling time.

Honey Hunan Grilled Chicken
4 boneless Chicken Breasts, skin removed
Wooden skewers
Honey Hunan BBQ Sauce:
8-10 tablespoons hoisin sauce
3 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons dark soya sauce
2 tablespoons dry sherry
1 tablespoon oriental sesame oil
1 teaspoon curry powder (can use up to 1 tablespoon for variety)
1 teaspoon Chinese chili sauce
4 cloves garlic, crushed
1 tablespoon grated or finely minced orange peel
1 tablespoon black bean garlic sauce
¼ cup tasted white sesame seeds

Steps:

  • Cut chicken breasts into ¾ width strips (a little bigger than the tender) and thread the strips onto pre-soaked wooden skewers and brush with Honey Hunan BBQ Sauce. Cover and marinade for ½ hour while you make the Asian Spinach Salad. Note: Pre-soak wooden skewers for 1-2 hours to stop them from burning on the grill Grill on a direct-high heat on the BBQ for 6-8 minutes (length of time depends on ultimate thickness of chicken strips), turning and basting with the Honey Hunan sauce at 3 ½ to 4 minutes. Turn and baste again in the last minute of cooking - 'cause more sauce is better! To make the Honey Hunan BBQ Sauce, place all ingredients in a both, mixing thoroughly, To toast sesame seeds, place fry or sauté pan on high heat. When pan is heated, put in seeds, stir constantly to avoid burning. When most of the seeds show some light color, remove from heat and place seeds in shallow bowl to cool. When cool, mix into sauce.

1 clove garlic, chopped
⅓ cup honey
1 tablespoon lemon juice
4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves

Steps:

  • Preheat a grill for medium heat.
  • Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the garlic, and cook until fragrant, 1 to 2 minutes. Whisk in honey and lemon juice. Reserve half for basting, and brush the other half onto the chicken breasts.
  • Lightly oil the grill grate, and place chicken on the grill. Cook for 6 to 8 minutes per side, turning frequently. Baste often during the last 5 minutes. Chicken is done when the meat is firm, and juices run clear.
