Homemade Pineapple Jam from scratch in under an hour. Spread it on toast or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, or make my delicious Pineapple Pork Chops.

Categories     Breakfast     Dessert     Snack

Time 55m

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 pineapple (, peeled, cored, and chopped into ~1-2 inch pieces)
1 cup water
1.5-2 cups sugar (, to taste)
1 tablespoon lemon juice ((from 1/2 lemon))
Optional: a few pinches of cinnamon or few slices of fresh ginger (, to taste)

Steps:

  • In a large blender or food processor, pulse the chopped pineapple until it is roughly shredded. You might need to do this in 2-3 batches. Be careful not to turn it into a smoothie!
  • Combine the pulsed pineapple and the rest of the ingredients in a small/medium saucepan and heat on low until all the sugar melts (start with 1.5 cups sugar, you can always add more later). Add cinnamon or ginger, if using.
  • Bring to a boil, stir, then lower the heat and let simmer for 40-50 minutes, or until it reaches a nice jam consistency, stirring frequently - it will turn more translucent the longer you cook it. Remove from heat. Add more sugar and/or cinnamon if you wish.Allow to cool and store in the fridge in a covered jar for up to 3 months.

PINEAPPLE JAM RECIPE

Pineapple Jam Recipe image

Homemade Pineapple Jam is a treat that you will enjoy for breakfast on your bread if you are into Caribbean flavors or if you want to start your day with a sweet sunshine and beach memories jam. I usually make a batch which lasts for some months if you store it correctly. Also, make sure to take a look at my tips mentioned in the post. That way your pineapple jam will be a huge success.

Provided by Helene Dsouza

Categories     Breakfast

Time 1h5m

Number Of Ingredients 2

2 Pounds Pineapple (*see notes)
2 3/4 cups Sugar

Steps:

  • Cut your pineapple. To cut pineapple without wasting too much of the skin. Cut out the center too because the pineapple center is too hard. You can eat the pineapple center, there is nothing wrong with it (some people get an itching in the throat).
  • Place the pineapple pieces into a pot and add in the sugar. Mix the content. Let it sit for a little while so that the juices can mingle.
  • Place the pot on the heat and bring slowly to a rolling boil. Then bring down the heat to a low flame and let the jam simmer slowly.
  • Check with your thermometer if the jam is ready or do the running jam test with a cold spoon or plate.
  • If the jam is set, get your clean immersion blender and just blend the jam real quick into a smooth consistency. Keep on the heat for a few more minutes after that just to make sure to kill all germs.
  • Then grab your sterilized jar and lid and fill up your jar with the jam up to the rim. up to the rim is a must!)
  • Close the jar with the lid very well and quickly turn the jar upside down to create a vacuum. That way your jam will preserve very well for a long period of time.
  • Keep your jar upside down overnight and then store your jam in a cool, dark and dry place (not in the hot attic or wet cellar!). That way you can store your jars for more than 8 months. Once you open the jars store in the fridge.

HOW TO MAKE PINEAPPLE JAM

How to Make Pineapple Jam image

Pineapple jam is a sweet, juicy spread that is slightly more tart than the average berry jam. It's also quite easy to make at home, even if you've never made jam or jelly before. Spread your homemade pineapple jam on a crispy piece of...

Provided by wikiHow

Categories     Jams and Jellies

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 pineapple
1 cup (240 ml) of water
5 cups(1200 ml) of granulated sugar
2 lemons
1 packet of pectin

Steps:

  • Remove the skin of the pineapple. Before cutting into the pineapple, give it a rinse in the sink. Then, Peel a Pineapple by laying it on its side and cutting off the top and the very bottom. Set the pineapple upright and slice off the outside skin in strips.
  • Cut the pineapple into small pieces. Slice the pineapple into small, 1 inch cubes. You don't have to be precise, as you will be blending the pineapple. Just make sure that the pieces are small enough to put in a food processor or blender. Cut out any little knots or seeds that you may come across while cutting the pineapple.
  • Blend the pineapple chunks. Drop the pineapple pieces into a blender or food processor. Blend until the pineapple reaches a smooth, somewhat pulpy consistency. Remove any seeds or rough pieces from the mixture.
  • Squeeze in the lemon juice. Wash the two lemons and cut them in half. Either in a lemon juicer or by hand, squeeze the lemon juice into the pineapple mixture. Stir with a spoon.
  • Mix in the sugar. Pour the five cups of sugar into the pineapple mixture. Stir thoroughly so that the sugar is fully incorporated into the pineapple and dissolves. Let the mixture sit for fifteen minutes or so.
  • Bring the pectin and water to a boil in a saucepan. Combine one packet of pectin and one cup (240 ml) of water in a small saucepan, then bring the mixture to a boil on medium heat. Boil for one minute, then remove the saucepan from the stove. Pectin is a fruit extract that helps to thicken and bind jams and jellies. Different varieties of pectin sometimes call for different amounts of water to be added. Check and follow the instructions on your packet if you are supposed to use a different amount of water than one cup.
  • Combine the pectin and the pineapple mixture. Pour the pectin into the pineapple mixture and stir for one minute. You should notice that the mixture has thickened considerably and has a more jam-like texture than before. The jam is now ready to be canned or to be eaten once it has cooled down!

HABANERO PINEAPPLE JAM

Habanero Pineapple Jam image

This is a recipe devised to use a bounty of habaneros grown by my uncle and given to me. I mixed and matched pieces from recipes found on the internet to come up with one that has these beautiful colors, flavors, and texture. I love to serve this on top of a softened block of cream cheese with butter crackers as an appetizer. It's also a great marinade/glaze (when mixed with a bit of soy sauce) for pork and chicken.

Time 12h45m

Yield 64

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 (20 ounce) can crushed pineapple
6 ½ cups white sugar
1 ½ cups apple cider vinegar
½ teaspoon salt
1 red bell pepper, minced
12 habanero peppers - stems and membranes removed, minced
1 cup shredded carrots
¾ cup powdered fruit pectin, or more to taste

Steps:

  • Drain pineapple well, reserving 1/2 cup pineapple juice.
  • Inspect 8 half-pint jars for cracks and rings for rust, discarding any defective ones. Wash new, unused lids and rings in warm soapy water. Place jars and lids on a rack in a large pot of boiling water; sterilize for about 5 minutes. Remove jars from water and place on kitchen towel or wooden board.
  • Mix sugar, apple cider vinegar, and salt together in an 8-quart pot and cook over medium heat to dissolve the sugar. Bring to a boil and add the pineapple, reserved pineapple juice, minced bell pepper, habanero peppers, and carrots. Bring back to a rapid boil for about 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
  • Add powdered pectin, 1 tablespoon at a time, mixing well after each addition. Let jam boil for 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and ladle into sterilized jars, leaving 1/4 inch at the top. Wipe off any spillage around the rims of the jars using a damp paper towel.
  • Screw on tops and rings. Place the sealed jars back in boiling water for 5 to 10 minutes. Remove jars from boiling water and place on kitchen towel or wooden board. Allow to cool completely, 12 to 24 hours. Listen for a "pop" as jars cool and seal.
