Easy Hummus Recipe: How to Make Hummus image

How to make hummus the traditional way. No fuss. No extra flavors added. Just a plain, classic homemade hummus recipe. And a couple of tricks will ensure you achieve the best hummus ever--thick, smooth, rich, and ultra creamy. Be sure to see the video tutorial as well.

3 cups cooked chickpeas, peeled (from 1 to 1 1/4 cup dry chickpeas or from quality canned chickpeas. See recipe notes for more instructions on cooking and peeling chickpeas)
1 to 2 garlic cloves, minced
3 to 4 ice cubes
1/3 cup (79 grams) tahini paste
½ tsp kosher salt
Juice of 1 lemon
Hot water (if needed)
Early Harvest Greek extra virgin olive oil
Sumac

Steps:

  • Add chickpeas and minced garlic to the bowl of a food processor. Puree until a smooth, powder-like mixture forms.
  • While processor is running, add ice cubes, tahini, salt, and lemon juice. Blend for about 4 minutes or so. Check, and if the consistency is too thick still, run processor and slowly add a little hot water. Blend until you reach desired silky smooth consistency.
  • Spread in a serving bowl and add a generous drizzle of Early Harvest EVOO. Add a few chickpeas to the middle, if you like. Sprinkle sumac on top. Enjoy with warm pita wedges and your favorite veggies.

1 (15 ounce) can garbanzo beans (no salt added)
1 garlic clove, minced
2 tablespoons lemon juice
3 tablespoons light sour cream
1 tablespoon olive oil
salt and pepper
1/4-1/2 teaspoon cumin
baby carrots
assorted fresh vegetable
pita chips

Steps:

  • Rinse and drain the garbanzo beans.
  • Place into a bowl add the garlic and mash well yet still retaining some texture.
  • Mix in the sour cream, olive oil, and lemon juice.
  • Add cumin, salt & pepper to taste.
  • Serve with baby carrots other veggies or pita chips.

Classic Hummus My Way image

I recently tried and really liked hummus. So I came up with my own version, loosly adapted from the back of the cumin canister. This is a basic recipe but one that DH and DD liked too. Hope you like it as well.

15 ounces chickpeas, canned, drained
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 tablespoon garlic, minced
1 teaspoon cumin
1/2-1 teaspoon ground red pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
garlic powder, to taste
onion powder, to taste
water, for consistancy

Steps:

  • Put first 7 ingredients in food processor and pulse. May need to add a little water to get to the correct consistancy. I also add just a tad more garlic powder and onion powder for flavor. We like garlic at my house, so that is your preference.
  • Chill for 20 to 30 mins and enjoy with cut up vegetables, pita chips or crackers.

1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 clove garlic, crushed
½ teaspoon ground cumin
½ teaspoon salt
2 drops sesame oil, or to taste

Steps:

  • Blend garbanzo beans, lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, cumin, salt, and sesame oil in a food processor; stream reserved bean liquid into the mixture as it blends until desired consistency is achieved.
