  • Hazelnut spread, fig slices, and shaved almonds. To kick this off, we started with a classic toast spread for this combination: Hazelnut! While hazelnut spreads are typically paired with berries—like strawberries or raspberries—fig is actually known to pair well with hazelnut.
  • Cream cheese, lemon zest, dill, and cucumber. Think of this toast combination as a deconstructed tea sandwich. Inspired by foods typically seen at a tea party, this cucumber cream cheese toast tastes light and refreshing.
  • Ricotta, blueberries, honey, and lemon zest. Because lemon, blueberry, and ricotta pancakes are a beloved breakfast item, why couldn't these flavors work as a toast idea as well?
  • Ricotta, roasted cherry tomatoes, basil, and balsamic vinegar. Ricotta is a versatile soft cheese that's great with sweet or savory dishes. If you already have a container of it in the fridge, why not try a savory version of ricotta toast and add some roasted tomatoes to it!
  • Peanut butter, strawberries, and chocolate chips. If peanut butter and strawberry jam work well on toast, why not throw some fresh strawberries on peanut butter toast instead?
  • Avocado, fried egg, and everything bagel seasoning. OK, we know, this is essentially avocado toast, but trust us on this one! Go beyond the usual smashed avocado on toast by adding a fried egg to it.
  • Cottage cheese, peach, cinnamon, and honey. Cottage cheese may not be the most popular cheese spread out there, but it's certainly not one to skip over for toast.
  • Marinara, fried egg, and pesto. We could have made a classic pizza-style toast with marinara, but by using a fried egg, this toast now has a striking similarity to Shakshuka—a divine Middle-Eastern dish typically served in a skillet.
  • Pesto, roasted tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and balsamic vinegar. Now that you have pesto, why not use it as a spread for another toast? Using the leftover roasted tomatoes from the ricotta, roasted cherry tomatoes, basil, and balsamic vinegar recipe we already have, simply add some fresh mozzarella cheese, and this toast creates a clever twist on the classic caprese salad.
  • Brie, apple, candied walnuts, and maple syrup. There's nothing like a sweet apple with some creamy cheese, right? The combination may sound odd at first, but we promise, it is one that you will want to indulge in.

  • Finely dice the tomatoes and combine them with the oil, salt, pepper, and ribboned (or finely chopped) basil. For a super easy bruschetta - use a mandoline or sharp knife to evenly slice the tomatoes instead of removing the seeds and dicing them.
  • Slice the bread of your choice to around ½-inch in thickness. Then lightly brush each slice with olive oil.
  • Using a garlic clove, rub it over the toasted bread slices (both sides) until well coated. While the bread is warm, the garlic practically melts into it. Feel free to adjust the amount you use to personal preference (I use 1 clove per toast almost).Alternatively, you can skip this step and add minced garlic to the tomato bruschetta mixture in step 1 (allowing it to marinate).
  • If you have tomato slices, arrange them over the bread and drizzle with a bit of olive oil, salt, pepper, and some freshly chopped basil. For the diced tomato, spoon over some of the topping on each bread slice and then, optionally, top with a little additional olive oil or a drizzle of balsamic vinegar or glaze. Serve immediately and enjoy!

  • Broccoli and Garlic-Ricotta Toasts with Hot Honey. Crispy roasted broccoli works just as well as an appetizer as it does a side dish when scattered over garlicky, ricotta-slathered toasts.
  • Oregano-Marinated Tomato Salad. Marinating sliced tomatoes in salt, pepper, olive oil, and fresh oregano intensifies their flavor and brings out their rich juices.
  • Sea Bream Crudo with Lemon and Olives. Sea bream, common in the Mediterranean, has lean flesh with a light, delicate flavor. If you can’t find it, porgy or snapper are suitable subs.
  • Antipasto Salad. Long sweet peppers show up at farmers’ markets during the peak of the season and may be sold as long sweet yellow, sweet banana, Hungarian Sweet, or Cubanelle.
  • Pasta e Fagioli with Escarole. Parmesan rind and a kitchen sink’s worth of aromatics give heady flavor to this classic pairing of beans and pasta, no meat required.
  • Flatbread Caprese. Top-of-season cherry tomatoes and fresh mozzarella turn flatbread—either homemade or store-bought pizza dough—into a refreshing, delicious summer appetizer.
  • Risotto with Amarone and Caramelized Radicchio. Red wine and bitter lettuce give this low-maintenance risotto a punch of flavor and sophistication. Get This Recipe.
  • Polenta Bites with Wild Mushrooms and Fontina. Store-bought tubes of polenta are the ultimate appetizer shortcut: just slice and toast in the oven, top with wild mushrooms and Fontina, then bake until melty and irresistible.
  • Radicchio and Citrus Salad with Burrata. We’re over having to carefully cut the peels off citrus before slicing them; simply peeling them first keeps their natural shape intact and saves time.
