This is basically a jam sandwich cooked like french toast. You can use any jam you like but raspberry is my fave so for the sake of this recipe that's what I'm listing. Lovely!

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 large egg
2 teaspoons caster sugar
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 slices white bread
2 tablespoons raspberry jam
butter

Steps:

  • Beat the egg, sugar and vanilla in a shallow dish.
  • Make up your jam sandwich with the bread and jam. Cut the crusts off if you wish (I do!).
  • Soak the sandwich in the egg mixture until it has all been absorbed into the sandwich.
  • Heat a knob of butter in a frying pan over a medium heat.
  • Fry for 1 - 2 minutes on each side or until lovely and golden.
  • Serve immediately.

I got this out of a book I borrowed from the library and made it for a quick weekend snack for the family. Very popular.

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 egg
2 teaspoons caster sugar, plus extra to sprinkle
1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence
2 slices white bread (or brioche)
1 -2 tablespoon of your favourite jam (I used raspberry)
1 tablespoon unsalted butter

Steps:

  • Lightly beat together the egg, caster sugar and vanilla essence in a shallow dish and set aside.
  • Spread the jam on to one slice of the bread and then place the other slice on top, pressing together firmly.
  • Melt the butter in a large skillet over a medium-low heat.
  • Soak the sandwich in the egg mixture until all of the egg has been absorbed.
  • Fry in the butter for 1-2 minutes each side until golden brown.
  • Slice the sandwich in half and sprinkle with the extra caster sugar.
  • You may serve with a scoop of ice cream, yoghurt or a dollop of whipped cream or all by itself.

Here's what you need: eggs, double cream, icing sugar, vanilla extract, bread, strawberry jam

4 eggs
1 cup double cream
1 teaspoon icing sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 slices bread
strawberry jam, to taste

Steps:

  • Add the eggs, cream, icing sugar and vanilla extract to a bowl and whisk until smooth.
  • Dip two slices of bread into the mix, soaking them thoroughly.
  • Fry both slices until golden brown on both sides.
  • Cut paper heart out of baking paper.
  • Place paper heart on one slice of bread and cut a heart shaped hole into the bread using the paper as a guide.
  • Spread jam on the other slice of bread, then place the bread with the heart on top of this slice.
  • Place the paper heart back over the hole, and sprinkle with icing sugar. Then remove the paper heart.
  • Enjoy!

1 (12 ounce) container fully cooked luncheon meat (e.g. Spam)
5 eggs
½ cup milk
8 slices white bread

Steps:

  • Cut meat into 8 slices. Cook in a large skillet until browned on both sides. Remove from skillet, and keep warm.
  • In a shallow dish, beat eggs and milk together. Dip bread quickly in egg mixture, coating both sides. Fry two at a time in skillet until done on both sides. Wrap one piece of meat with one slice of French toast.

3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons white sugar
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
4 slices plain bread, cut into 4 pieces
1 cup oil for frying
1 cup milk, divided
2 tablespoons custard powder
½ cup confectioners' sugar
½ cup whipped cream
8 strawberries, halved
8 toothpicks

Steps:

  • Whisk eggs, 3 tablespoons milk, white sugar, and vanilla extract together in a shallow bowl until smooth.
  • Heat 1/4 inch of oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  • Dip 4 pieces of bread in egg mixture and fry until golden brown, about 2 minutes per side. Repeat with remaining pieces.
  • Combine 2 tablespoons of milk with custard powder in a small bowl; stir until smooth. Bring remaining milk to a boil in a small saucepan. Stir custard mixture into the saucepan. Reduce heat and cook, stirring frequently, until custard thickens, about 5 minutes.
