This is my friend Jennifer's recipe that she uses a lot for any function that requires food. Everyone loves these so much that I asked for the recipe. The key to making these taste so good is to cook them so the cheese melts but the rolls do not get toasted. These are also good using roast beef and Havarti cheese.

Number Of Ingredients 7

cooking spray
12 brown and serve dinner rolls
¼ cup honey mustard dressing
¼ cup butter, melted
3 slices Swiss cheese, cut into quarters
6 slices fully cook ham, halved
1 tablespoon sesame seeds, or more if desired

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray.
  • Slice each roll almost all the way through, but keeping the top attached. Arrange rolls on prepared baking sheet.
  • Stir honey mustard dressing into melted butter until well blended.
  • Brush butter mixture inside each roll using a pastry brush, making sure to get the top and bottom.
  • Place a layer of Swiss cheese and ham into each roll.
  • Close each roll and brush the top with butter mixture. Sprinkle the top of each roll with sesame seeds.
  • Bake rolls in the preheated oven until cheese has melted, 5 to 6 minutes.

When I was in the pageants, there were parties for everything. My Director lives in a multi million dollar estate but down to earth. She and my Assistant Director made (with some outside help) a zillion appetizers. One was this Mini Ham and Cheese rolls. They were yummy. Wrap in foil and re warm in oven on a very low temperature. These would be great to serve at the Super bowl Party. No one will complain.

24 - browned, dinner rolls
2 tablespoon(s) dried, minced oion
2 tablespoon(s) prepared mustard
2 tablespoon(s) poppy seeds
1/2 cup(s) butter, melted
1/2 pound(s) very thin chopped ham slices, small slices
1/2 pound(s) thinly sliced swiss cheese
1/8 teaspoon(s) ground dill, optional
1/8 teaspoon(s) ground parsley flakes, optional

Steps:

  • Pre heat oven to 325 degrees F
  • In a small mixing bowl, combine onion flakes,mustard, poppy seed, parsley and dill with melted butter.
  • Split each dinner roll. brush one side with the butter mixture and place a piece of ham and swiss cheese, replace top like a sandwich. Do all 24 and place them on a cookie sheet. Drizzle rest of butter mixture across top of rolls.
  • Bake for 20 minutes or until the cheese has melted. Serve warm.

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  • In a small mixing bowl combine onion flakes, mustard, poppy seeds and the melted butter.
  • Split each dinner roll and make a sandwich with the ham and cheese. Arrange the sandwiches on a baking sheet and drizzle the poppy seed mixture over the sandwiches.
  • Bake for 20 minutes or until cheese has melted. Serve warm.

This appetizer ham and cheese roll includes a mustard-poppyseed sauce. Number of servings depends on usage.

2 packages dainty dinner rolls (in aluminum pans)
8 ounces sliced ham
8 ounces swiss cheese
1/2 cup margarine
1 1/2 tablespoons poppy seeds
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 tablespoons prepared mustard
1 tablespoon onion flakes

Steps:

  • Slice top half off rolls while rolls are still attached to each other.
  • Set aside top half.
  • Layer bottom half with ham, then with cheese, covering to edges.
  • Replace top half and place on cutting board.
  • Using sharp knife, slice down through individual rolls.
  • Place in glass baking just large enough to hold both packages without crowding together.
  • Melt the stick of margarine in saucepan; add poppy seed, Worcestershire sauce, prepared mustard, and onion flakes.
  • Stir and pour over top of rolls.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.
