HOMEMADE ITALIAN SPAGHETTI SAUCE RECIPE

Homemade Italian Spaghetti Sauce Recipe image

Here is my family spaghetti sauce recipe passed down from my grandmother in Italy - it is the best one you will ever cook - don't trust me - try it!

Provided by Lauren Cobello

Time 3h20m

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 TSBP olive oil
1/2 onion (finely chopped)
4 cloves of garlic (minced)
3 28 oz. cans of Crushed Tomatoes
1 Tbsp Salt
4 Tbsp Basil
1 tsp Black pepper
1 Tbsp Sugar (optional)
1/3 cup Grated Parmesan or Romano Cheese

Steps:

  • Heat the olive oil in a 5+ qt. pot over medium heat, and add the onion.
  • Saute for 10 minutes or so, stirring often and being careful not to burn it.
  • Add the chopped or pressed garlic.
  • Heat for another one to two minutes, making sure not to burn the garlic, then add all the tomatoes, salt, black pepper, basil, and sugar. Stirring often, bring to a low boil.
  • Reduce heat to low and simmer for 2-3 hours stirring often.
  • For the first half of the simmer time, do so with the pot uncovered, then cover.
  • Add the cheese, stir in and simmer for an additional 5 minutes or so.
  • This will make the equivalent of 4-5 jars of sauce, and the cost is probably about half (and it tastes way better).

JOLEAN'S KILLER SPAGHETTI SAUCE

Jolean's Killer Spaghetti Sauce image

This was my Mom's recipe for spaghetti that became one of our favorite "special Sunday dinners." I can't describe how wonderful the whole house smelled whenever she made this, and all of us kids would fill up on it so much that we couldn't MOVE for the rest of the day! NOTE: She always INSISTED on serving only Vermicelli pasta with this -- No regular spaghetti or thin spaghetti would do...

KILLER SPAGHETTI AND MEATBALLS

KILLER SPAGHETTI AND MEATBALLS image

Categories     Beef     Quick & Easy     Dinner

Yield 4-6 people

Number Of Ingredients 27

For Sauce:
1 onion, thinly sliced
3 cloves minced garlic
2 tbsp olive oil
2 14.5 oz cans of tomato sauce
1 6 oz (small) can of tomato paste
1/2 cup water
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp garlic powder
2 tbsp Italian or pizza seasoning
1 tsp sugar
1/2 cup fresh basil, thinly sliced
1 lb. spaghetti, cooked according to package directions
for Meatballs:
1.25# ground beef (good quality)
3/4 cup Italian bread crumbs
3 cloves minced garlic
1/2 cup milk
2 eggs
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
2 cups grated or shredded mozzarella
1/2 cup diced onion
2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper
1 tsp. garlic powder
2 tbsp. Italian or pizza seasoning (or 1 tbsp each dried oregano and dried basil)

Steps:

  • Prepare meatballs first. Preheat oven to 375. Spray a baking sheet lightly with cooking spray. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl. Using your hands, mix well so that all ingredients are incorporated through, but do not overmix. Shape mixture into golf ball-sized balls and place on baking sheets. Bake for 30-45 minutes or to desired level of doneness. You may want to turn heat up to 425 after 30 minutes if you want a crustier outside on the meatball. Makes 25-30. While meatballs are baking, cook the pasta and start the sauce. In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add onions and cook until soft. Add garlic, cook for 1 minute. Add tomato sauce, tomato paste and water. Stir until well combined. Lower heat to a simmer. Add all of the seasonings and stir well. Continue to simmer until sauce and seasonings are well blended. Serve over 1/2 to 1 pound of pasta cooked according to package directions. Top with fresh basil.
