⅓ cup white sugar
½ cup white vinegar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground dry mustard
1 teaspoon grated onion
1 cup vegetable oil
1 tablespoon poppy seeds

Steps:

  • In a blender or food processor, combine sugar, vinegar, salt, mustard and onion and process for 20 seconds. With blender or food processor on high, gradually add oil in a slow, steady stream. Stir in poppy seeds.

1/8 teaspoon mace
3 tablespoons lime juice
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 1/2 teaspoons poppy seeds

Steps:

  • In a small mixer bowl, stir together honey, lime peel and juice, poppy seeds, salt and mace.
  • Beat honey mixture with an electric mixer on medium-high speed while gradually adding oil. Continue beating until mixture thickens.
  • Cover; chill.
  • Stir to remix before serving. (If, after chilling, mixture becomes too thick to drizzle, let stand at room temperature for 30 minutes).

1 cup bean sprouts
1 cup thinly sliced mushroom
1 (8 ounce) can mandarin oranges, drained
1/4 cup toasted slivered almonds
1/3 cup honey
1/4 teaspoon shredded lime zest
3 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1 1/2 teaspoons poppy seeds
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground mace
1/4 teaspoon vegetable oil

Steps:

  • Tear spinach into small pieces.
  • Toss together spinach, scallions, and bean sprouts.
  • Layer mixture on salad plates and top with mushroom slices, mandarin oranges, and almonds, and chill.
  • Whisk together all ingredients for dressing except oil.
  • Slowly add oil, using whisk to stir constantly.
