FRIED CABBAGE
When I was young, my family grew our own cabbages. It was fun to put them to use in the kitchen, just as I did with this comforting side. With potatoes, deviled eggs and cornbread, fried cabbage tastes like home. -Bernice Morris, Marshfield, Missouri

Steps:
- Place the 6 slices of bacon into a large frying pan over medium heat. Fry the bacon until it's fully cooked through. Remove the cooked bacon from the frying pan , reserving the bacon grease in the pan. When the bacon has cooled, crumble it and set it to the side. Add the shredded cabbage , diced onion and sugar to the pan with the bacon grease. Cook the cabbage and onions in the pan, turning the cabbage with a spatula until it wilts down and becomes soft. Continue cooking if you like until it browns slightly. Add the crumbled bacon to the pan and mix it in by folding it into the cabbage with a spatula. Salt and pepper the cabbage to taste before serving.
