Homemade Sloppy Joes image

This easy recipe for the classic saucy beef sandwich is a tastier version than the traditional semi-homemade way.

1 1/2 pounds ground beef
3/4 cup chopped green bell pepper
1 cup chopped onion
4 cloves garlic, pressed
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 cup ketchup
2 cups water
2 tablespoons taco seasoning
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 tablespoons brown sugar, packed
2 tablespoons mustard
8 hamburger buns

Steps:

  • Brown ground beef along with the onions, peppers, and garlic in a large heavy pot, drain grease if necessary.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients and simmer for 20 minutes on medium-low heat uncovered.
  • Spoon onto the bottom half of a hamburger bun, place cheese, onion slices, pickles, and other add-ons on top then cover with the other half of the bun. Serve.

2 lb lean (at least 80%) ground beef
1 cup chopped celery
1 cup chopped green bell pepper
1/2 cup chopped onion (1 medium)
1 can (19 oz) Progresso™ Vegetable Classics hearty tomato soup
1 can (10 3/4 oz) condensed chicken gumbo soup
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
2 teaspoons dried Cajun seasoning
12 burger buns, split

Steps:

  • In 12-inch nonstick skillet, cook ground beef, celery, bell pepper and onion over medium-high heat 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until beef is thoroughly cooked; drain.
  • Reduce heat to medium. Stir in all remaining ingredients except buns. Cook 15 to 20 minutes longer or until mixture is bubbly and vegetables are tender, stirring occasionally. Spoon beef mixture into buns.

1 can(s) 19 oz progresso vegetable classics hearty tomato soup
1 can(s) 103/4 oz condensed chicken gumbo soup

2 tsp dried cajin seasoning

Steps:
