1 & 1/2 cups (180g) all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened
1 cup (200g) packed light brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup (113g) sour cream
1/2 cup (85g) + 3/4 cup (127g) chocolate chips*
1/2 cup (60g) chopped pecans

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease an 8-inch square baking pan.
  • Whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Set aside.
  • Using an electric mixer on medium speed, beat the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, and mix well. Mix in the vanilla.
  • Reduce mixer speed to low. Gradually add the flour mixture, mixing just until combined. Stir in the sour cream. Stir in 1/2 cup chocolate chips and the pecans.
  • Transfer the batter to the prepared pan. Bake 28-32 minutes, or until a pick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Set the pan on a wire rack. Sprinkle 3/4 cup chocolate chips on top of the warm cake. Wait 5 minutes. Then, using an offset spatula, spread the chocolate to cover top of cake. Allow the cake to cool completely.

1 cup sugar
1 large egg
2 large egg whites
1 cup reduced-fat sour cream
2/3 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup whole wheat flour
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
TOPPING:
1/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until crumbly, about 2 minutes. Add egg, then egg whites, beating well after each addition. Beat in the sour cream, applesauce and vanilla (mixture will appear curdled). Combine the flours, baking powder, salt and baking soda; stir into butter mixture just until blended. , Pour half of the batter into a 13-in. x 9-in. baking pan coated with cooking spray. Combine sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle half over the batter. Top with half of the chocolate chips. , Gently top with remaining batter; spread evenly. Sprinkle with remaining cinnamon-sugar and chips. Bake at 350° for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack.

1/2 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ yellow cake mix (about 1 2/3 cups)
1/3 cup water
1/4 cup sour cream
3 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
1 egg
1 1/4 cups miniature semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 teaspoon vegetable oil

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pan). Spray bottom and sides of 9- or 8-inch square pan with baking spray with flour.
  • In large bowl, beat cake mix, water, sour cream, butter and egg with electric mixer on low speed 30 seconds. Beat on medium speed 2 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. Stir in 1/2 cup of the chocolate chips. Spread in pan.
  • Bake 9-inch pan 22 to 28 minutes, 8-inch pan 27 to 33 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely, about 1 hour.
  • In small microwavable bowl, microwave 1/2 cup of the chocolate chips and the oil uncovered on High 45 seconds, stirring every 15 seconds, until melted. Place in small resealable food-storage plastic bag; cut off tiny corner of bag. Drizzle over top of cake. Sprinkle with remaining 1/4 cup chocolate chips. Store loosely covered.

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Brush a 9-by-13-inch baking pan with oil. Line with parchment, leaving a 2-inch overhang on two sides; brush parchment. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and cardamom.
