This is it! The classic monkey bread recipe, oozing with warm caramel and cinnamon. Monkey bread is irresistible!

½ cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 (16.3 ounce) cans Pillsbury® Grands!® Homestyle refrigerated buttermilk biscuits
½ cup chopped walnuts
½ cup raisins
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
¾ cup butter or margarine, melted

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease 12-cup fluted tube pan with shortening or cooking spray. In large -storage plastic food bag, mix granulated sugar and cinnamon.
  • Separate dough into 16 biscuits; cut each into quarters. Shake in bag to coat. Arrange in pan, adding walnuts and raisins among the biscuit pieces.
  • In small bowl, mix brown sugar and butter; pour over biscuit pieces.
  • Bake 28 to 32 minutes or until golden brown and no longer doughy in center. Cool in pan 10 minutes. Turn upside down onto serving plate; pull apart to serve. Serve warm.

3 tablespoons butter, melted
1 garlic clove, minced
1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Additional Italian seasoning

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425°. Separate biscuits; cut each into 6 pieces. In a large bowl, combine butter, garlic and Italian seasoning; add biscuit pieces and toss to coat., Place 4 pieces in each of 12 greased muffin cups. Sprinkle with cheese and additional Italian seasoning. Bake until golden brown, 8-10 minutes. Serve warm.

1/4 cup evaporated milk
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
3/4 cup butter, melted

Steps:

  • Combine sugar and cinnamon; set aside.
  • Separate biscuits and cut each into fourths.
  • Coat with sugar and cinnamon mixture.
  • Stack in bottom and around sides of lightly buttered bundt pan.
  • Bring milnot, brown sugar and butter to a boil in a small pan until thickened.
  • Pour over biscuits.
  • Bake at 350°F for 35 minutes.
  • Cool slightly before removing from pan.
  • Serve warm.

The dear friend who shared this recipe has since passed away, but I think of her every time I prepare this sweet bread. Maple syrup provides a saucy caramel flavor. I enjoy developing original recipes or altering others to suit my tastes.

2 tubes (7-1/2 ounces each) refrigerated buttermilk biscuits
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup butter, melted
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1/2 cup maple syrup

Steps:

  • Cut each biscuit into quarters. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Dip biscuits in butter, then roll in sugar mixture. Layer half the biscuits in a 10-in. fluted pan; sprinkle with half the nuts. Repeat layers. Pour syrup over top., Bake at 350° for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Immediately invert onto a serving platter. Serve warm. Refrigerate leftovers.

At Christmas time, as in many Germanic and Eastern European countries, many type of Christmas biscuits or "Cukrovi" are made. This traditional Czech recipe is shaped as a bear's paw and is called "medvedi tlapicky". This version is a slightly Americanised version with the addition of a chocolate coating and the almond "claws". Traditionally the biscuits are simply covered in vanilla icing sugar. This version is the tastiest we've found so far.

Steps:

  • Heat the oven to 180C / 160C fan oven / gas mark 4.
  • Thoroughly grease 3 bear paw moulds or madeleine pans with butter.
  • In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together flour, cinnamon, cloves, cocoa powder, and nuts. Add to butter-sugar mixture, mixing thoroughly.
  • Press dough into prepared pans and bake for about 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean and the edges are turning slightly brown.
  • Allow to cool completely.
  • Melt chocolate on a bain-marie (bowl sitting on a pan of boiling water). Hold each cookie by the "heel" and dip the top front end of the "paw" into chocolate, and then place on waxed or parchment paper.
  • Insert four almond "claws" into paw while the chocolate is still wet and let the chocolate hardened completely.
  • Store covered in an airtight container.

1 ¼ cups white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
3 (7.5 ounce) packages refrigerated biscuit dough (such as Pillsbury®)
½ cup butter, melted
40 maraschino cherries

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line three baking sheets and three cooling racks with parchment paper.
  • Mix white sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon together in a large resealable bag.
  • Cut each biscuit into four pieces. Dip each biscuit piece in melted butter; transfer to sugar mixture. Gently shake bag to coat biscuits in sugar mixture.
  • Thread three biscuit pieces onto a skewer; add a maraschino cherry. Repeat with three more biscuit pieces, ending with a maraschino cherry. Repeat with remaining ingredients to make 20 kabobs. Arrange kabobs on the prepared baking sheets.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until biscuits are cooked through, about 15 minutes. Flip kabobs halfway through cooking.
  • Transfer kabobs to prepared wire racks and let cool.
