A quick and easy sandwich with ham, turkey and swiss slices, dipped in an egg/milk mixture and fried to a golden brown. A hot alternative to the usual lunch or snack. Try it with berry jam on the side.

1 teaspoon mayonnaise
1 teaspoon prepared mustard
2 slices cooked ham
2 slices cooked turkey meat
1 slice Swiss cheese
1 egg
½ cup milk

Steps:

  • Spread bread with mayonnaise and mustard. Alternate ham, Swiss and turkey slices on bread.
  • Beat egg and milk in a small bowl. Coat the sandwich with the egg and milk mixture. Heat a greased skillet over medium heat, brown the sandwich on both sides. Serve hot.

I love the classic Monte Cristo that Bennigan's serves with red raspberry preserves for dipping; but sadly, our Bennigan's recently closed. This is a variation from the 2002 Pillsbury Bake-Off using Grands buttermilk biscuits and baked instead of fried.

1/4 lb chopped cooked ham
1/4 lb chopped cooked turkey
1 cup sliced swiss cheese, chopped
1 (16 1/3 ounce) can Pillsbury Grands refrigerated buttermilk biscuits
1 egg
1 tablespoon milk
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
powdered sugar
raspberry jam

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 375°F In medium bowl, mix ham, turkey and cheese.
  • Separate dough into 8 biscuits. Press or roll each to form 6 to 7-inch round. Place slightly less than 1/3 cup ham mixture on one side of each biscuit round. Fold dough over filling; press edges to seal. Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
  • In small bowl, beat egg, milk, cinnamon and nutmeg. Brush over tops of filled biscuits.
  • Bake 12 to 19 minutes or until golden brown. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serve with jam.

1/4 cup seedless raspberry jam
1/4 cup dijon mustard
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
4 12-inch prepared crepes
8 thin slices Black Forest ham (about 5 ounces)
8 thin slices deli turkey (about 8 ounces)
8 thin slices muenster cheese (about 4 ounces)
1 5-ounce package mixed greens (about 8 cups)
1 small head frisee, torn into small pieces
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper

Steps:

  • Microwave the jam in a microwave-safe bowl until loosened, 20 to 30 seconds. Stir in the mustard; set aside.
  • Heat 1/2 tablespoon butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add 1 crepe; stack 2 slices each ham, turkey and cheese on one half of the crepe. Cook until the crepe just starts browning on the bottom and the cheese starts melting, 1 to 2 minutes. Fold the crepe in half over the filling using a spatula, then fold in half again to form a wedge. Flip the wedge and cook until the bottom is browned, about 30 seconds. Transfer to a plate. Repeat to make 3 more crepes. (Remove the skillet from the heat between batches if it gets too hot.)
  • Toss the greens and frisee with the olive oil and a pinch each of salt and pepper. Serve the crepes with the raspberry mustard and salad.

12 slices Texas toast
French Toast Custard, recipe follows
18 slices Swiss cheese
18 ounces shaved ham
16 ounces premade pancake batter
Strawberry-Rhubarb Syrup, recipe follows
6 large eggs
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup milk
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
4 ounces fresh strawberries, stemmed and quartered
4 ounces fresh rhubarb, large dice
1/2 cup sugar
2 ounces maple syrup

Steps:

  • Preheat a griddle and deep fryer to 350 degrees F.
  • Butter the griddle. Dunk the Texas toast on both sides in the French Toast Custard and grill until golden brown. Flip and add 1 slice Swiss cheese to each slice of toast. Then add 3 ounces ham on top of 6 of the toast slices, then top the ham with another slice of Swiss cheese. Top each ham and cheese toast with a cheese only toast, to form 6 sandwiches. Cook until the cheese melts, then remove from griddle and cool. Dunk the cooled sandwiches in the pancake batter until fully covered and put into the fryer. Cook until golden brown on both sides, about 8 minutes. Serve with the Strawberry-Rhubarb Syrup.
  • Beat the eggs well, then add the sugar and mix until emulsified and all the sugar has dissolved. Add the milk and vanilla and whisk until combined.
  • Add the strawberries, rhubarb, sugar and maple syrup to a saucepot. Place over medium heat and cook until fruit is soft, about 20 minutes. Let cool slightly, then carefully puree with a hand blender.

8 slices country bread
Swiss cheese slices
Bourbon-Glazed Ham
4 large eggs
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
4 tablespoons butter
Confectioners' sugar

Steps:

  • Spread mustard on bread. Layer 4 bread slices with Swiss cheese, ham, and cheese again. Place remaining bread slices on top.
  • In a shallow dish, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Dip each sandwich in the egg mixture, turning to coat well.

8 slices white bread
3/4 lb cooked turkey, diced
3/4 lb cooked ham, diced
3 cups swiss cheese, shredded
4 large eggs
1 1/2 cups milk
1 1/2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon onion powder
2 tablespoons powdered sugar
8 tablespoons raspberry preserves

Steps:

  • Trim 4 pieces of bread and put in the bottom of a 9 x 9 glass casserole.
  • Evenly sprinkle 1 cup of cheese over the bread.
  • Layer the turkey and ham evenly over the cheese.
  • Evenly sprinkle the remaining cheese over the meat.
  • Cover with the remaining pieces of bread.
  • Beat together the eggs, milk, mustard, and onion powder, then pour over the bread.
  • Press lightly on the bread with a fork, pushing down into the egg mixture.
  • Cover and chill for 6 hours or overnight.
  • Bake at 325 degrees F for 60 minutes or until the top and sides are golden.
  • Cool for 10 to 15 minutes before serving, sprinkled with the powdered sugar.

1 loaf (20 oz) country white bread, crusts removed and thinly sliced
1/4 cup spicy brown mustard
14 oz sliced Black Forest ham
3 1/2 cups shredded Gruyère cheese (14 oz)
3 tablespoons chopped fresh sage leaves
4 eggs
3 cups milk
2 teaspoons ground pepper

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 375°F. Generously grease bottom and sides of 13x9-inch (3-quart) baking dish with shortening or cooking spray.
  • Place layer of bread slices in bottom of baking dish. Brush with 2 tablespoons of the mustard. Top with half of the ham slices, then sprinkle with 1 cup of the shredded cheese and 1 tablespoon of the sage. Repeat layers, reserving last 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese.
  • In large bowl, beat eggs with whisk, then add milk and ground pepper; beat to combine. Carefully and evenly pour egg mixture over layers in baking dish, making sure bread absorbs most of the liquid. Sprinkle with remaining cheese and 1 tablespoon fresh sage.

2 packages turkey breast
4 units cheese shredded
0.5 cups eggs
4 tablespoons low
16 units toothpicks
1 units olive oil spray

Steps:

  • Lay wrap flat. Place 1/4 of meat and cheese ingredients horizontally on each wrap. Carefully fold bottom section of wrap over top section like a taco. Then carefully fold in a little on each end while rolling up wrap “burrito style”. Place a couple of toothpicks like a safety pin to hold wrap together.
  • Pour egg substitute into flat bottom bowl. Dip and coat each Monte Cristo wrap in egg substitute. Spray olive oil in skillet and warm to medium/medium high. Place wraps in skillet and pour remaining egg substitute over the top of wraps.
  • Cook (5 - 10 minutes) turning once or twice to brown all sides. Don't forget to remove the toothpicks before serving! Serve with 1 Tbsp. each of jam for dipping.
