Steps:
- Cake.
- 1. In a bowl, sift then measure flour. Add sugar and salt. Put aside.
- 2. In a saucepan melt: margarine or butter and cocoa. Bring to a low boil.
- 3. Pour chocolate over flour mixture and mix with a spoon.
- 4. Beat eggs and add to mixture.
- 5. Add buttermilk and vanilla.
- Pour mixture into a greased & floured cookie sheet. About an inch thick maybe a little more Bake at 350° for 20 minutes.
- Frosting.
- 1. In a saucepan melt: margarine or butter, cocoa, milk and vanilla.
- 2. Add powdered sugar.
- 3. Pour over cooled cake.

- Mix sugar and cocoa then add crisco, eggs and 1 tablespoon hot water. Measure and sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Alternate mixing both together and add buttermilk, boiling water and vanilla. Pour into baking pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes.

This recipe was given to me by a bloke I worked with some 30 years ago. He used to regularly share his mothers chocolate cake with his mates at work.
