Take ordinary sloppy joes and make it into a savory casserole with this Sloppy Joe Casserole. Made with ground beef, onion, green peppers, tomato sauce and crescent dough, this sloppy joe casserole is the ultimate comfort food for a cool autumn night.

1-1/2 lb. lean ground beef
1 cup chopped onions
1 cup chopped green peppers
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 can (8 oz.) tomato sauce
1/2 cup HEINZ Tomato Ketchup
2 Tbsp. LEA & PERRINS Worcestershire Sauce
1 can (8 oz.) refrigerated crescent dough sheet
2 tsp. sesame seed

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 400°F.
  • Brown beef with onions, peppers and garlic powder in large nonstick skillet over medium heat, stirring occasionally; drain. Return beef mixture to skillet. Add tomato sauce, ketchup and Worcestershire sauce; mix well.
  • Spoon into 4-qt. casserole sprayed with cooking spray.
  • Unroll crescent sheet; place over ground beef mixture, stretching dough as necessary to completely cover beef mixture. Spray lightly with additional cooking spray; sprinkle with sesame seed.
  • Bake 18 to 20 min. or until golden brown.

2 (10 ounce) cans refrigerated biscuit dough
1 pound ground beef
1 (15 ounce) can sloppy joe sauce
1 small onion, chopped
1 small green bell pepper, seeded and chopped
¼ teaspoon garlic salt
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Cut the biscuit dough into quarters and press to cover the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Place the ground beef into a skillet over medium heat. Cook, stirring to crumble, until no longer pink. Add the onion and bell pepper about halfway through, cooking and stirring until tender. Drain off excess grease and stir in the sloppy Joe sauce. Season with garlic salt and pepper. Pour the mixture over the biscuits and spread to cover evenly.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until the biscuits are cooked through, about 20 minutes. Remove from the oven and sprinkle the cheese on top. Return to the oven until the cheese has melted, about 10 more minutes.

2 (24 ounce) packages Simply Potatoes Traditional Mashed Potatoes
1 (15 1/2 ounce) can sloppy joe sandwich sauce (I like Hunt's Thick and Chunky)
1 lb lean ground beef (or ground pork or ground turkey)
1 cup diced bell pepper (could be all red, all green or mix)
1/2 cup water

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Begin browning the meat in a large saute pan on med-high heat. Add diced peppers after meat has been cooking for several minutes. Cook until there is no more pink in the meat. Turn heat to low and add can of sloppy joe sauce. Mix thoroughly and let it heat through. Add 1/2 cup of water and mix well. Take off heat and pour into a large (3qt) casserole dish. (could be a shallow (9x13) or deep - depends if you want thick layer of potatoes).
  • Bake for 30 minutes and cool slightly before serving.
