ORANGE ICE CREAM

Orange Ice Cream image

This award-winning Orange Ice Cream recipe is made with fresh squeezed orange juice and makes the most delicious treat on a hot summer's day.

Provided by Lauren Allen

Categories     Dessert

Time P1DT15m

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 ¼ cups fresh squeezed orange juice ((6-8 oranges))
1 1/2 Tablespoons lemon juice ((or substitute))
3/4 cup granulated sugar ((or more if needed, if oranges are not overly sweet))
2 cups heavy cream
1 Tablespoon orange Jello*

Steps:

  • Add orange juice, lemon juice and sugar to a mixing bowl and stir well to combine. Taste and add a little more sugar if it's not sweet enough. Whisk in cream and orange Jello.
  • Freeze/churn according to ice cream maker instructions. *If using a modern electric ice cream maker (that doesn't require ice/salt) freeze the bowl of the ice cream maker overnight and refrigerate the liquid mixture for several hours (or overnight), before churning. Both need to be completely chilled.
  • Store in the freezer for 1-2 weeks, in an airtight container with a piece if plastic wrap against the surface to help keep it from crystalizing.

ORANGE SODA ICE CREAM (ELECTRIC ICE CREAM MAKER)

Orange Soda Ice Cream (Electric Ice Cream Maker) image

This is one of my favorite homemade ice creams. It is super easy and tasty. I have had this several times since I was a young boy but have never made it myself. The Eagle Brands website calls for 20 oz Orange Soda rather than 2 Liters. I am pretty sure we used a 2 qt Ice cream churn and most likely did not put the whole 2 liters in the recipe. Also they call for 2 teaspoons of Orange Extract. You can also make this with other flavors.

ORANGE ICE CREAM

Orange Ice Cream image

This recipe, adapted from "La Bonne Cuisine de Madame E. Saint-Ange," asks you to zest and juice six oranges, but that's the most effort you'll have to put forth for this delicately flavored, sublime ice cream. Freeze it in your ice cream maker according to the manufacturer's instructions, and the result is a citrusy, summery treat.

Provided by Amanda Hesser

Categories     ice creams and sorbets, dessert

Time 10m

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 4

6 oranges, zested and juiced
1 lemon, zested and juiced
1 cup plus 3 tablespoons sugar
2 cups crème fraîche

Steps:

  • Using your fingers, firmly blend the zests and the sugar. Strain the citrus juices into a saucepan. Add the zest-sugar and place over low heat. Stir just until the sugar dissolves, about 1 minute. Whisk in the crème fraîche.
  • At this point, you may strain the mixture into a 1 1/2 -quart mold, cover and freeze it, or you may chill it and then churn it in an ice-cream maker, following the manufacturer's instructions. Ice cream made in a mold will be dense and icy (unmold by dipping the base of the mold in a bowl of hot water for a minute or two); churned ice cream will be more like a mousse.
