- To start preparing the peppermint patty martini, grab a cocktail shaker and add in one cup of ice cubes or crushed ice. Next, pour 30 ml of vodka, 30 ml of white crème de menthe, 30 ml of dark crème de cacao and 60 ml of half-and-half into the cocktail shaker loaded with ice. Now, screw the lid of the cocktail shaker on tightly, to prevent the drink from splashing out, and give it a couple of vigorous shakes, in order to make sure all the ingredients have blended together thoroughly. Then, hold a strainer over the martini glasses, and pour the peppermint patty martini into these - make sure no shards of ice make their way into your martini. As a final touch, garnish the glasses by hanging mini candy canes from the rims. Serve straight up and chilled.
PEPPERMINT PATTIES
I have made these every year as one of many Christmas treats. My family really loves them, it wouldn't be Christmas without them! When you dip, tap the fork on the edge of the pan to shake off excess. Slide the patty onto waxed paper -- you can use the fork to make a little swirl on the top to make it pretty.

- In a large mixing bowl, combine condensed milk and peppermint extract. Beat in enough confectioners' sugar, a little at a time, to form a stiff dough that is no longer sticky. Form into 1 inch balls, then place on waxed paper and flatten with fingers to form patties. Let patties dry at room temperature two hours, turning once.
- In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt chocolate with shortening, stirring often. Remove from heat. Dip patties, one at a time, into chocolate by laying them on the tines of a fork and lowering the fork into the liquid. Let cool on waxed paper until set.

Tastes just like a peppermint patty. Usually I tinker around with martini ingredients for a while to get the flavor I am after, but I nailed this one on the first try. One of my wife's favorites.

- I prefer Absolute Vodka (actually I prefer Grey Goose or Level, but I can afford Absolute). 1 1/2 ounces equals 1 jigger.
- Combine all ingredients in shaker.
- Strain and serve in chilled martini glass (easy way to chill a martini glass is to let it sit a couple of minutes with ice water in it).
- You will not get closer to a peppermint patty flavor than this.
- Enjoy.
