PLUM SIMPLE SYRUP

Plum Simple Syrup image

Whip up this syrup when plums are plentiful in the summer. Use the syrup to make Plum Margaritas, and the plum halves to top yogurt or ice cream.

Ingredients

1 cup sugar
4 small plums, preferably Santa Rosa, halved and pitted

Steps:

Bring sugar, 1 cup water, and plums to a boil in a small saucepan. Remove from heat; let stand 20 minutes. Strain and let cool completely. Syrup can be refrigerated in an airtight container up to 5 days.

These refreshing cocktails are made with gin and either yellow or red plums.

Ingredients

1 1/4 cups sugar
8 plums (red, yellow, or both), pitted and cut into 6 wedges each
2 limes, cut into wedges
10 ounces gin
Sparkling water

Steps:

Cook sugar and 1 1/2 cups water in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until sugar has dissolved. Bring to a boil. Stir in plums; remove from heat. Refrigerate syrup until cold.
Fill 10 tall glasses with ice. Squeeze 1 lime wedge into each glass; add wedge to glass. Stir 1/4 cup syrup and 1 ounce gin into each glass. Add sparkling water to fill; stir. Garnish with plums. Serve.
