Creamy and soothing with just a hint of cinnamon. Check it out and you will find that it is actually healthy for you. Another great Andrew Weil,MD recipe.(UPDATE-2006) It has been pointed out that this recipe does not live up to its name. I posted it as it was printed and although it does not meet low carb standards, it is a very delicious drink.

4 tablespoons cocoa powder (I like dutch cocoa)
2 tablespoons sugar (Splenda changes the taste)
4 tablespoons filtered water
12 ounces 1% low-fat milk
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1 pinch cinnamon

Steps:

  • Mix cocoa & sugar together in saucepan.
  • Add water. Stir well.
  • Cook over med. heat until mixture comes to a boil and the sugar is dissolved.
  • Stir in milk, extracts and cinnamon.
  • Reduce heat to low & stir until warmed through.
  • Sit back, wrap your hands around the warm cup and enjoy.

Another delicious splenda recipe. This makes for a great dessert or a filling protein alternative. For those of you who don't already know, unsweetened cocoa is rich in antioxidants and high in fiber. Peanut butter is cholesterol-free, rich in vitamin E, niacin and iron. I buy 16 0z to-go cups w/ lids at Costco and I enjoy one of these on a morning where I am very rushed and need something hot and filling and healthy calories. You can use soy milk instead if you prefer.

16 ounces 1% low-fat milk
1 tablespoon creamy peanut butter
2 (1 g) packets Splenda sugar substitute (or two teaspoons)
2 tablespoons unsweetened baking cocoa, hershey's powder
1/4 cup fat free marshmallows

Steps:

  • Heat milk to very hot in mug.
  • Add peanut butter and stir until melted (use a mini hand blender if you have one).
  • Add splenda and cocoa and stir well.
  • Top off with marshmallows before serving.
  • Another option, if you want a creamier texture, use a blender to mix well before heating.
