How to make gummy worms that look and taste like the real deal, using flavored Jell-o, plain gelatin, and water.

1 box 6 oz flavored Jell-o of choice*
3 packets 0.25 oz ea. unflavored gelatin
⅔ cup water

Steps:

  • Pour flavored Jell-o and unflavored gelatin packets into saucepan, then and add liquid and whisk to combine. Allow to sit at room temperature for 5-10 minutes.
  • Heat mixture in saucepan over medium-low heat, whisking continuously until melted and dissolved.
  • Remove from heat and transfer mixture into silicone gummy worm molds, or silicone molds of choice. (I use a dropper/syringe to make this easier for me, adding ~5mL of liquid per gummy worm cavity.)
  • Chill filled molds in refrigerator until hardened. (This should only take around 15-20 minutes.)
  • Once set, peel gummy candies from molds and enjoy!
  • Store gummies in the fridge in an airtight container, or leave them in the molds and cover until ready to remove and enjoy. Lasts up to 7 days.
  • Yields 40 gummy worms. (Filled 2 of my silicone gummy molds.)

Jello Worms: How to make a Bowl Worms image

These Jello worms are amazingly disgusting! So perfect for your next Halloween party!

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 package Raspberry Jello (the regular sized box, not the large box)
3 packages Unflavoured Gelatin
3 cups Boiling Water
125 Flexible Straws
3/4 cup Whipping Cream
15 drops Green Food Colouring
1 Wide Mouth Mason Jar (4 cup size or Round Cylindrical Glass Vase (the dollar store will have something))

Steps:

  • In a large measuring cup, combine the Jello and the unflavoured gelatin.
  • Add the boiling water and stir until the gelatin is completely dissolved.
  • Chill in the fridge for 20 minutes or until lukewarm.
  • Stretch each of the straws open to extend the flexible parts and then put the straws into the mason jar with the flexible side closer to the bottom.
  • Add the green food colouring to the whipping cream and stir until combined. (Just stir it, don't whip it).
  • Pour the whipping cream mixture into the Jello mixture and stir until it's well combined.
  • Pour the mixture through the top of the straws until it fills the container. The straws will self level so don't worry about filling each individual straw.
  • Chill for at least 8 hours.
  • Run each straw under hot water for a few seconds.
  • Pinch the straw from the top down to squeeze out each worm.
  • If you are making these in advance, squeeze the worms onto a waxed paper lined baking sheet and store, covered, in the fridge until you are ready to serve them.
  • These can be made up to 2 days in advance.

1 (6 ounce) package raspberry gelatin powder or 1 (6 ounce) package grape gelatin
3 (1/4 ounce) envelopes unflavored gelatin
3 cups boiling water
100 flexible plastic straws
1 tall slender 4 cup container (same height as extended straws)
3/4 cup whipping cream
12 -15 drops green food coloring

Steps:

  • In a bowl, combine gelatins.
  • Add boiling water; stir until gelatins completely dissolve. Chill until lukewarm, about 20 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, gently pull straws to extend to full length; place in tall container.
  • Blend cream and food coloring with the lukewarm gelatin mixture. Pour into container, filling straws.
  • Chill until gelatin is firm, at least 8 hours, or cover and chill up to 2 days.
  • Pull straws from container (if using a carton, tear carton away from straws). Pull straws apart; run hot tap water for about 2 seconds over 3 to 4 straws at a time. Starting at the empty ends, push worms from straws with rolling pin, or use your fingers; lay worms on waxed paper-lined baking sheets.
  • Cover and chill until ready to use, at least 1 hour or up to 2 days.
  • Worms will hold at room temperature up to 2 hours.

2 pkg 3 oz raspberry jello
1 pkg unflavored gelatin (for extra firmness)
3/4 c whipping cream
3 c boiling water
15 drops green food coloring
100 flexible straws (or enough to fill your container)
1 tall container (1 quart or 1 liter carton of milk)

Steps:

  • 1. Combine gelatin in bowl and add boiling water.
  • 2. Let it cool to lukewarm and then add the whipping cream and 15 drops green food coloring.
  • 3. Gather your straws (don't forget to flex them out) and put them in the container. It's important that the straws have a tight fit so the jello stays in the straws. For this reason, a 1 liter carton may be better; you will probably get longer worms since there is a tighter fit. If you have a bigger container, a rubber band around the straws is helpful. Or you could just add more straws to fill the container.
  • 4. Add the gelatin mixture to the straw-filled container and let it set until firm.
  • 5. There are multiple ways you can remove the worms from the straws. You can roll a rolling pin over the straws and squeeze them out or you can hold the straws over warm water. The worms will slip right out.

  • Mix together 1 cup of the juice (or other liquid) with the 5 Tbsp. of gelatin and allow the gelatin to rest for several minutes. This will allow the gelatin to "bloom," meaning that it will absorb the liquid and expand. This will make it much easier to dissolve the gelatin later.
