ROOT BEER FLOAT (SHOT)

Root Beer Float (Shot) image

This smooth little layered shot tastes like a Root Beer Float... with ice cream and all! Since you use the sinking technique for this shot the root beer schnapps takes on a creamier appearance. Don't worry... you did it right! Cheers! Root beer floats were invented in Alexandria, VA!

OLD-FASHIONED ROOT BEER SLUSHY

Old-Fashioned Root Beer Slushy image

This delicious and refreshing concoction is one of my all-time favorite summer drinks. If you know how to make ice cubes and you have a blender, this couldn't be simpler. It's very close to a root beer float but uses only a fraction of the dairy. Be careful, if you sip it too fast, you'll experience the most intense brain freeze of your life-but it will be worth it!

Provided by Chef John

Time 3h10m

Yield 2

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 (16 ounce) bottle root beer
3 tablespoons cold heavy cream
¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
1 ½ cups root beer, cold

Steps:

  • Pour 1 bottle root beer into a standard-sized ice cube tray. Carefully transfer to the freezer until frozen, 3 to 4 hours.
  • Whisk cold cream and vanilla in a small bowl until slightly thickened. Cover and place in the refrigerator until needed.
  • Transfer root beer ice cubes into a blender. Add 1 1/2 cups cold root beer and blend until a smooth, thick slush forms, stopping and shaking the blender as needed.
  • Pour into 2 frozen mugs, leaving about 1 inch of room at the top. Spoon vanilla cream over top and serve.

  • To melt the chocolate chips, place them in a bowl and microwave in 30 second increments until melty. I like to take a spoon and drizzle this around the rim.
  • Fill each glass with both chocolate and vanilla ice creams. Add a pinch of smoked sea salt into the glass. Pour the root beer over top just before serving. Sprinkle on the graham crackers and add a charred marshmallow on to finish. Devour!
  • As a note, you can char the marshmallows on a gas range, under the broiler (watch them the entire time!) or even just get them melty in the microwave if you don't have a bonfire of sorts.
