1 1/4 pounds ground beef
1 packet meatloaf seasoning (recommended: Schilling?s Meatloaf Seasoning Packet)
2 tablespoons ketchup
1/4 cup bread crumbs
1 egg
Hot dog buns
Relish and chopped onion, for garnish

Steps:

Preheat grill to medium-high heat.
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, seasoning packet, ketchup, bread crumbs, and egg. Mix until just combined; do not overmix. Shape into hot dog forms. Grill for approximately 8 to 10 minutes. Serve on hot dog buns with more ketchup, relish, and chopped onions.

Mad dogs were my favorite kid food, and they're fun to make. Good quality hot dogs are slit open, stuffed with cheese, and wrapped with a slice of bacon. They're great with or without a bun, and you can try them with ketchup, mustard and onions.

1 hot dog
1 slice Cheddar cheese
1 slice bacon

Steps:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
Using a knife, make a slit along the entire length of the hot dog that's about 3/4 of the way through the hot dog. Break the cheese slice into 2 pieces and stuff each piece into the slit in the dog. Wrap the bacon slice around the hot dog in a spiral fashion, then secure all with a toothpick. Place on a cookie sheet or baking dish.
Bake at 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) for 11 to 15 minutes, or until bacon is crisp.

½ cup butter
1 cup white sugar
1 egg
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
½ teaspoon baking powder
1 cup milk
½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ cup milk
2 ½ tablespoons all-purpose flour
½ cup white sugar
½ cup shortening
½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

Cream together butter and 1 cup sugar, add egg. Sift together 2 cups flour, cocoa, soda, 1/2 teaspoon salt and baking powder. Add vanilla and milk.
Drop by tablespoon full onto ungreased cookie sheet and bake 7-8 minutes at 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Cool completely and make sandwiches using following filling.
To Make Filling: Combine 2 1/2 tablespoons flour and 1/2 cup milk and cook until it turns to thick paste. Cool completely.
Cream together the 1/2 cup sugar, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/2 cup shortening, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Add cooled paste and beat until fluffy. (This will take awhile and if your paste is not completely cooled it will look curdled. ) I usually double this recipe for the filling.

1 1/2 tablespoons red wine vinegar, or more to taste
salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
8 turkey frankfurters, best-quality
8 hot dog buns, best-quality, split

Steps:

1. Preheat the grill to high.2. Combine the eggs in a medium-size bowl with the tomato, corn, peas, olives, onion, oil, 1 1/2 tablespoons vinegar, and salt and pepper and toss gently but thoroughly to mix. Taste for seasoning, adding vinegar or salt and pepper as necessary the mixture should be highly seasoned.3. When ready to cook, oil the grill grate. Arrange the frankfurters on the hot grate and grill, turning with tongs, until crusty and nicely browned all over, 6 to 8 minutes in all. While the frankfurters cook on the second side, add the buns, cut side down, to the grate and toast lightly.4. Serve the frankfurters on the buns, topped with the relish.Serves 8
