1/3 cup orange marmalade
1/4 cup orange juice
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1-1/2 teaspoons minced fresh gingerroot
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Steps:

  • In a small saucepan, heat all ingredients to allow flavors to blend. Serve warm or at room temperature.

15 ounces tomato sauce
1/2 cup root beer
3 tablespoons white wine vinegar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon fresh ginger, finely minced
1 garlic clove, finely minced
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1 tablespoon dried onion flakes
1/4 teaspoon liquid smoke
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients into small saucepan.
  • Bring to boil & then reduce to a simmer. Cook until thickened approx 15-20 minutes.
  • Use immediately or store in refrigerator tightly sealed after chilling.

1 stick (1/2 cup) melted unsalted butter, plus additional for greasing the skillet
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon kosher salt
2 cups sugar
1 cup whole milk
12 ounces fresh blackberries
1 cup boiling water
Sassy Sauce, recipe follows
One 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup heavy cream
Splash rum

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and butter a 10-inch cast-iron skillet.
  • Whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, 1 cup sugar, the melted butter and milk in a large bowl. Beat well, then pour the batter into the buttered cast-iron skillet. Top with the fresh blackberries. Sprinkle with the remaining cup sugar, then pour the boiling water over the top.
  • Bake until the filling is bubbling and the cobbler topping is golden, 35 to 40 minutes. Pour sassy sauce over the top before serving.
  • Whisk together the sweetened condensed milk and the heavy cream in a saucepan over low heat until combined and warm. Spike with rum. Pour over the cobbler.

1 pork tenderloin or roast (about 2 pounds), cut in half
1 tablespoon seasoning salt
1 can (12 ounces) root beer
1 bottle (4 ounces) liquid smoke
1 cup Sassy Sauce, recipe follows, or your favorite barbeque sauce
8 hamburger buns
Spicy bread and butter pickle chips, for serving
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup Dijon mustard
1/2 cup molasses
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
1 tablespoon liquid smoke
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Steps:

  • Place the pork tenderloin or roast in the bottom of a slow cooker and sprinkle with the seasoning salt. Pour the root beer and liquid smoke over the top. Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on low for 8 hours. Once the pork is done, remove from the pan and shred with a fork. Place into a bowl and add in the Sassy Sauce, as well as 1/2 cup of the juice from the slow cooker. Serve on a bun with bread and butter pickles.

  • To make the sauce, add the ketchup, brown sugar and mustard and to a medium saucepan. Stir in the remaining ingredients and simmer over medium-low heat for about 15 minutes. Remove and serve with pulled pork sandwiches. Makes 1 1/2 cups.

2 cups ketchup
2 cups cider vinegar
1 cup dark corn syrup
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup root beer
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
4 pounds pork baby back ribs

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan, combine the first nine ingredients. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 20-25 minutes or until slightly thickened, stirring occasionally. Set aside 3 cups for basting and serving., Brush remaining sauce over ribs. Place bone side down on a rack in a large shallow roasting pan. Cover tightly with foil and bake at 325° for 1-1/2 to 2 hours or until tender., Moisten a paper towel with cooking oil; using long-handled tongs, lightly coat the grill rack. Grill ribs, covered, over medium heat for 15-25 minutes or until browned, turning and brushing occasionally with some of the reserved sauce. Cut into serving-size pieces; serve with sauce.
