SAUSAGE 'N HAMBURGER ROUNDS

These are delicious! I have served them several times at pot lucks and friends' get togethers. They are so easy to make and so convenient to constantly have on hand. Yummy.

2 loaves miniature party rye rounds
1 lb lean ground beef
1 lb hot pork sausage (I use Jimmy Dean)
1 lb Velveeta cheese
1 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt (more if desired)
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Steps:

  • Line cookie sheets with wax paper or parchment paper.
  • Spread party rye slices onto the lined cookie sheets (Makes approximately 60 pieces).
  • Brown Ground Beef and Pork Sausage together.
  • While browning meat, cut up velveeta into chunks.
  • Drain grease thoroughly from meat mixture.
  • Add all other ingredients to the meat mixture and cook until the cheese melts, stirring as it cooks.
  • Remove from heat and drop mixture by spoonfuls onto the party rye slices.
  • Place cookie sheets into freezer and freeze the party rye rounds.
  • When frozen, remove from cookie sheets and slide into plastic bags returning to the freezer for later use.
  • When ready to use, take desired amount from the bag and place on cookie sheet under the broiler until brown and bubbly.
  • (Few minutes).
  • Enjoy.

The aroma in the Test Kitchen, while these were baking was awesome! I knew they were going to be good. The sweet Italian sausage with the cheese and garlic stuffing is so flavorful. I love that these are smaller... you can eat even more!

1 pound(s) loaf of frozen bread dough, defrosted according to package directions
1 pound(s) sweet Italian sausage, removed from casing
1/2 teaspoon(s) pepper
2 - chopped garlic cloves
1 tablespoon(s) oregano
1/4 cup(s) plus 2 teaspoons, Parmesan cheese
1 - large egg, divided
1 cup(s) shredded mozarella cheese
4 teaspoon(s) garlic powder

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray one 12 cup and one 6 cup (or 3 six cup, using 16 cups) muffin/cupcake pans with cooking spray and set aside.
  • In large skillet over medium heat, cook sausage almost completely(leaving slightly pink). crumbling into pieces with spatula, drain.
  • Add into sausage, 1 teaspoon pepper, 2 chopped garlic cloves, and 1 tablespoon oregano, cook until brown.
  • Turn off heat, and add in 2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese and egg yolk, stir completely.
  • Cut bread dough loaf into quarters, then cut each quarter again in quarters. Roll each piece into a ball, then stretch ball into a round, as if making a pizza crust.
  • Sprinkle each round with 1/2 teaspoon parmesan cheese, then spoon on approximately 1 1/2 teaspoons of sausage mixture, top each with 1 teaspoon shredded mozzarella cheese. Bring dough up around filling and pinch together. Place seam side down into each cup of prepared pans.
  • Brush each round with reserved egg white, and sprinkle top of each with 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder. Bake for 20-22 minutes, until golden brown. Serve with your favorite marinara sauce for dipping. Makes approximately 16 rounds.

1 can(s) refrigerated pizza crust dough
1 lb ground pork sausage ( browned and drained )
2 c shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • 2. Spray a cookie sheet with cooking spray.
  • 3. Roll pizza dough out on to the cookie sheet.
  • 4. Sprinkle evenly with sausage then with cheese.
  • 5. Beginning with one of the long sides start to roll it up jelly roll style.
  • 6. Turn the seam side down on the sheet and then pinch the ends
  • 7. Bake at 350 for about 30 mins or until browned. Then let it sit for about 8-10 mins. Slice then serve.
  • 8. A few notes...make sure the sausage is browned and cooked through. Drain and dry on paper towels. make sure its dry. If not you will have a greasy mess. I also sprinkled corn meal on my pan before putting the dough on it. I some times add a little parsley and onion powder before i roll it up. then half way into the cooking a brushed some of the sausage grease on it and sprinkled more parsley. You could add different meats and cheese.

1 package (16 ounces) hot roll mix
2 pounds reduced-fat bulk pork sausage
2 tablespoons dried parsley flakes
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
2 cups shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 large egg
1 tablespoon water

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°. Prepare roll mix dough according to package directions., Meanwhile, in a large skillet, cook sausage over medium heat 8-10 minutes or until no longer pink, breaking into crumbles; drain. Stir in seasonings., Divide dough into 4 portions. On a lightly floured surface, roll each into a 14x8-in. rectangle. Top each with 1-1/4 cups sausage mixture to within 1 inch of edges; sprinkle with 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese and 2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese. Roll up jelly-roll style, starting with a long side; pinch seams and ends to seal., Transfer to greased baking sheets, seam side down. In a small bowl, whisk egg with water; brush over loaves. Bake 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and heated through. Cool 5 minutes before slicing. Freeze Option: Cool cooked sandwiches 1 hour on wire racks. Cut each sandwich into thirds; wrap each securely in foil. Freeze until serving. To reheat sandwiches in the oven, place wrapped frozen sandwiches on a baking sheet. Heat in a preheated 375° oven for 20-25 minutes or until heated through.

My granddaughter made this recipe when she was down south visiting for the Christmas holiday. Everyone loved it. I got the recipe from her so I make it for the Holiday season. I also make it sometimes as a main dish served with a nice tossed salad.

1 large onion diced
2 pound(s) of hot, mild or sweet sausage
1 bag(s) mozzarella cheese grated. 12 or 16 oz bag
1 scoop(s) parmesan cheese
1 - pizza dough ball
1 - egg

Steps:

  • Take sausage out of casing or use ground sausage meat not in casings. Then saute diced onion and sausage in frying pan until sausage is no longer pink and onion is soft. Then strain this mixture to get rid of all the fat.
  • Roll pizza dough out. You might have to work with dough for a little while. Roll out into a big square. Then spread sausage mixture all over the dough leaving 1 inch space on all sides. Then sprinkle your cheeses on top of sausage mixture. Grease large cookie sheet pan before laying your sausage bread on it to bake.
  • Now roll dough up jelly roll fashion and brush top with a egg wash. [Beat 1 egg with a little water to make egg wash] Place in preheated 350 degree oven and bake for 15 mins or a little longer. You want it golden brown but not burnt. Take out of oven let cool for a little while and then slice and enjoy. You can dip into your favorite spaghetti sauce. Hope you enjoy as much as we do. I usually make this for Christmas Eve and other holidays as an appetizer.

We have a heritage festival every year, one of the groups made sausage bread, I found a recipe, tried it and it is very tasty for breakfast or any meal.

3 loaves frozen white bread dough
1 lb rolled sausage
1 lb smoked sausage (preference-mild)
3/4 lb shredded mozzarella cheese
3/4 lb shredded cheddar cheese (preference-mild)
optional ingredients jalapenos, olives or green onions
butter

Steps:

  • 1. Night before, mix sausages, cheese and other optional ingredients in a large bowl so that it easier to fix in the morning. Also put the bread in the refrigerator to thaw.
  • 2. Next day, preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • 3. Spray working surface with Pam or cooking oil so that bread does not stick as you are working with it.
  • 4. Taking each roll, roll out flat, spread inside with butter, and fill down the middle with sausage cheese mixture. Bring the sides of the bread together and seal, making a seam. Then, seal ends.
  • 5. Place loaf on greased baking sheet, seam-side down, and spread top with butter. Repeat with remaining loaves.
  • 6. Bake approximately 20 minutes or until top is lightly browned.
  • 7. Slice and enjoy!
