Savory Sweet Potato Pan Bread image

Great bread idea! This sweet potato bread is baked using two types of Gold Medal® flour in less than an hour.

1 1/2 cups uncooked shredded sweet potato (about 1/2 potato)
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs
1 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
1/2 cup Gold Medal™ whole wheat flour
2 teaspoons instant minced onion
1 teaspoon dried rosemary leaves, crumbled
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 tablespoon sesame seed

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°. Grease bottom only of round pan, 9x1 1/2 inches, with shortening.
  • Mix sweet potato, sugar, oil and eggs in large bowl. Stir in remaining ingredients except sesame seed. Spread in pan. Sprinkle sesame seed over batter.
  • Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Serve warm.

Sharp cheddar cheese combined with tender onions and it 's a quick bread that goes great with green salads.

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons margarine
½ cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
½ cup finely diced onion
1 tablespoon margarine
1 egg
½ cup milk
½ cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (205 degrees C). Grease one 8 inch round or one 8x8 inch square pan.
  • Combine flour, baking powder and salt, cut in 2 tablespoons of the butter until mixture is crumbly. Stir in 1/2 cup of the grated cheese. Make a well in the center of the mixture.
  • Fry the onion in 1 tablespoon of the butter or margarine until clear and golden. Set aside.
  • In a small bowl beat the egg and stir in the milk and the cooked onion. Pour egg mixture into the well in the flour mixture. Stir until just moistened. You will have a soft dough. Pat dough into the prepared pan. Sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup grated cheese over top.
  • Bake at 400 degrees F (205 degrees C) for 25 minutes. Serve hot. Makes about 6 servings.

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup fresh grated Parmesan Cheese
1 cup buttermilk
1 large egg
1/4 cup olive oil or vegetable oil
3 cloves garlic (minced (or 3 teaspoons))
1 teaspoon dried rosemary
1 teaspoon dried oregano

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease or spray with nonstick cooking spray a standard 9x5 loaf pan.
  • Whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a medium mixing bowl. Gently mix in the grated Parmesan cheese.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the oil, buttermilk and egg.
  • Pour the liquid ingredients over the dry ingredients. Gently stir and fold the ingredients until all the flour has been incorporated and a wet batter is formed. Gently fold in the herbs and garlic. Be careful not to over-mix.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan, spreading to the edges.
  • Bake in the preheated 350 degree oven for 45-50 minutes. When finished, the loaf should be domed and golden, and a toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean.
  • Cool in the pan for 15 minutes before removing, slicing and serving.
  • Wrap cooled loaves tightly in plastic wrap and store at room temperature for up to a week. For freezer storage, wrap in plastic and aluminum foil and frozen for up to three months.

This aromatic and yeast free Savory Sweet Potato Bread is a perfect home baked bread! Its made with healthy and simple ingredients. Along with being vegan its great for breakfast or snacking at any time of the day.

3 cups whole grain spelt flour
2 1/2 cups mashed sweet potatoes
1 tsp dried garlic
1 tsp dried rosemary
1 tsp dried parsley
1 tsp onion powder
1 tbsp flaxseed meal
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp salt
1 tsp maple syrup
1 tbsp olive oil
1/4 cup water
1 tbsp white sesame seeds

Steps:

  • Preheat oven at 375 degree Fahrenheit and prepare 9*5 inch bread pan by greasing and dusting it.
  • In a bowl combine all the ingredients (except water and sesame seeds) and knead very well with hands so that sweet potatoes are well mixed.
  • Add water gradually to it for soft dough. (Tortilla like dough). The dough should be soft but not runny. It should stick well and should be firm at the same time. Knead for 3-4 minutes. The more you knead the dough the softer and fluffy the bread would be.
  • Now shape the dough as per your baking pan. Don't press it from above too much. It's ok to have a small oblong shape as well like artisan breads. Place the dough in the pan.
  • Sprinkle the sesame seeds on its top and bake in the middle rack for 25 minutes. Then turn the pan to the other side for even baking and bake again for another 15 minutes or until the tester comes out clean.
  • Take it out of the oven and let it cool for a while. Cut into desired slices and eat with vegan margarine/butter or any topping of your choice.

3/4 c all-purpose flour
3/4 c whole wheat flour
1 Tbsp minced onion
1 1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/4 c sweet potatoes, uncooked, peeled and shredded (about 2 medium)
1/3 c sugar
1/3 c vegetable oil
2 eggs

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease bottom of an 8-inch round baking pan.
  • 2. Combine both flours, onion, baking soda and salt in a medium bowl; mix well and set aside.
  • 3. Combine sweet potatoes, sugar, oil and eggs in a large bowl; mix well.
  • 4. Add flour mixture to sweet potato mixture; stir until combined. Spread batter evenly in prepared pan.
  • 5. Bake bread until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean, 25-30 minutes. Plan pan on wire rack to cool slightly. Cut into wedges and serve warm!
  • 6. Hint...since you only need 1 tablespoon of minced onion in this recipe, you can mince the whole onion and freeze portions up to 3 months to use later!

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cumin and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together mashed potatoes, buttermilk, sour cream, goat cheese, eggs and melted butter until well combined. The wet ingredients will be slightly lumpy. Stir the wet ingredients into the dry and fold in green onions and bacon. Pour batter into a greased 8"x8" pan and bake 40-50 minutes until a tester comes out clean.
