- Step 1 Heat oil in medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Add tomato sauce, garlic, sofrito and sazon, cook until fragrant, about 1 minute. Step 2 Transfer liquid from can red beans to measuring cup; add enough water to measure 3½ cups. Add liquid to pot; bring to boil. Add beans, rice and sugar; stir. Bring rice mixture to a boil; reduce heat to medium low and cook, covered, until water is absorbed, about 20 min. Step 3 Remove rice from heat. Let sit until rice becomes tender, 5 minutes. - Bring water, rice, and olive oil to a boil in a saucepan over high heat. Mix in onion, sazon seasoning, adobo seasoning, garlic, and black pepper. Reduce heat to medium-low; cover and cook for 10 minutes. Add beans and olives and cook until liquid has been absorbed, about 10 minutes. Mix before serving.

This is a typical dish served in Cuba or Puerto Rico, each country has their own method of preparation. You can flavor this dish with meat, but I left it out as I serve it as a side dish with my meats. It is an easy and healthy short cut and takes about 30 minutes to cook.

- Heat oil in a medium sauce pan, sauté onion,green pepper, and garlic.
- Sauté until tender@8-10 minutes.
- Add in remaining ingredients and stir until boiling, reduce heat and simmer until sauce is reduced@ 20 minutes.
- Serve over white rice.
- I like to mash a few of the beans with the back of a spoon to flavor the sauce.
- Note: if you do not have Sazòn Goya an appropriate substitute would be ground cumin, chicken bouillon, and garlic salt to taste.

- Soak and rinse beans. In a large saucepan, soak beans in 4 cups water. DO NOT DRAIN. Meanwhile, heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onion, pepper, and garlic; cook until tender, about 5 minutes. Add remaining ingredients. Stir mixture into beans in saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce hat, cover, and simmer until beans are tender. Serve over hot cooked white rice.
SAZON RICE
Goes great with Mexican food. I can't remember where I picked this recipe up, but originally I found it on the internet. Unfortunately, I didn't have the url on the printout I had laying around. Originally it called for 1 packet of Sazon seasoning, but I used dry Sazon instead. If you don't have that, you might try using some Mexican seasoning blend with perhaps a little bit of annato.

- Add garlic and bell pepper and saute 3 minutes.
- Stir in 2 cans of beans (including the liquid) and the sazon goya spice mix.

BLACK BEANS AND RICE
Mmm, another quick and delicious meal. I like black beans because they're high in protein, but incredibly low in fat and calories, nice and filling without the worry. I actually got this recipe off of the back of a can and then messed with a little bit. Um, special tips for making this, I wouldn't add as much water as it says to add, I usually add about 3/4 of a cup to 1 cup of water, but it really depends on how much juice you want. If you think you've added too much you can just cook it longer. ****Also this recipe calls for 2 packets of Sazón Goya without Annatto, which you can find at any grocery store, usually in the aisle with Mexican food, but for some reason this site can't seem to understand. So. Good luck with that.****
