Categories     Dinner     Main Course

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 20

1 lbs Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts (cut into small 1-inch cubes)
1 Large Egg (beaten)
1 Teaspoon Cornstarch
1 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
Salt and Pepper (as per taste)
Oil (for deep frying Chicken)
1 Tablespoon Flour
1 Teaspoon Cornstarch
1 Teaspoon Smoked Paprika
1 Tablespoon Sesame Oil
2-3 cloves minced Garlic
½ inch Ginger (chopped)
¼ Cup Honey
½ Cup Ketchup
1 Tbsp Soy Sauce
1 Tsp Rice Vinegar
1½ Tbsp Brown Sugar
1 Tsp Cornstarch
1 Tbsp Sesame Seeds
chopped green onions (for garnish)

Steps:

  • In a bowl, place the Egg, Cornstarch, Garlic Powder, Salt & Pepper. Stir to combine.
  • In a bowl, whisk together AP Flour, Smoked Paprika, and Cornstarch.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a pan. As the Oil gets hot, Dip the Boneless, Skinless Chicken pieces first in the egg mixture and then toss them in the flour mixture. Fry the Chicken pieces in batches. Do not crowd the Pan, fry about 6-7 pieces of Chicken at once. Fry for 5-6 minutes, rotating midway until it gets crispy and golden brown on both sides. Drain the chicken on a paper towel.
  • Make the Sauce by combining Ginger, Garlic, Honey, Ketchup, Soy Sauce, Rice Vinegar, Sesame Oil, Brown Sugar, and Cornstarch.
  • In the same pan, where you fried the chicken, pour in the sauce and cook it over medium-high heat until it starts to boil. As the Sauce comes to a slow boil, add the crispy chicken pieces. Toss to combine with the sauce. Serve with sesame seeds and chopped green onions on top.

SESAME CHICKEN

Sesame Chicken image

This recipe really satisfies my craving for Chinese food. I serve it over rice with a side of steamed vegetables. The sauce makes just enough to glaze the chicken. I usually double or even triple the sauce recipe to have enough to pour over our rice and veggies. It is a nice low-fat alternative to the restaurant-style Sesame Chicken.

Categories     Chicken

Time 25m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

6 boneless skinless chicken breast halves, pat dry with paper towels
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup low sodium soy sauce
1 cup water
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/2-1 teaspoon ground ginger (fresh is better)
1/2-1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds

Steps:

  • Cut chicken breast into 1 inch strips or bite size pieces.
  • Heat a large non-stick skillet that has been sprayed with Pam, over medium-high heat.
  • Cook chicken for about 6 minutes or until no longer pink.
  • Mix together honey, soy sauce, water, corn starch, ginger and red pepper flakes.
  • Whisk until no corn starch lumps appear.
  • Pour sauce mixture into skillet with chicken.
  • Cook until sauce thickens slightly.
  • You can add more water if sauce is too thick.
  • Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  • Cover and simmer for 10 minutes or until chicken starts to soak up the sauce.
  • Note: Since originally posting this recipe, I have tried some of the suggestions others have made. I do like it with a bit of sesame oil (be careful not to get too much, just a few drops at the end of cooking is good enough for me, but you might like more), fresh ginger is also good if you have it on hand. I have tried it with garlic and it is good that way also. I have also found that it is good with shrimp and pork. Basically what I am trying to say is, the original recipe is just a simple, quick and healthy meal I came up with when I was craving Chinese food. I thought it turned out really great and wanted to share it. I'm happy that so many of you have enjoyed it. For those of you that didn't care for it, I hope you can find one that suits your fancy some where else.

Time 1h15m

Yield 6

Number Of Ingredients 21

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons cornstarch
¼ teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon baking powder
2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
1 tablespoon dry sherry
2 tablespoons water
1 teaspoon vegetable oil
1 dash sesame oil
1 pound skinless, boneless chicken breast meat - cubed
1 cup chicken broth
1 cup white sugar
2 tablespoons distilled white vinegar
2 tablespoons dark soy sauce
2 tablespoons sesame oil
1 teaspoon chile paste
1 clove garlic, minced
¼ cup cornstarch
½ cup water
1 quart olive oil for frying
2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds

Steps:

  • Sift flour, 2 tablespoons cornstarch, baking soda, and baking powder into a bowl. Pour in low-sodium soy sauce, sherry, 2 tablespoons water, vegetable oil, and a dash of sesame oil; stir until smooth. Stir in chicken until coated with the batter, then cover, and refrigerate for 20 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, bring chicken broth, sugar, vinegar, dark soy sauce, sesame oil, chile paste, and garlic to a boil in a saucepan over high heat. Dissolve 1/4 cup cornstarch into 1/2 cup of water, and stir into boiling sauce. Simmer until the sauce thickens and turns clear, about 2 minutes. Reduce heat to low, and keep sauce warm.

  • Drop in the battered chicken pieces, a few at a time, and fry until they turn golden brown and float to the top of the oil, 3 to 4 minutes. Drain on a paper towel lined plate. To serve, place fried chicken pieces onto a serving platter, and pour the hot sauce overtop. Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds to garnish.
