- In a large skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Stir in the corn, peas, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce and garlic. Reduce heat to medium-low; cover and cook for 5 minutes., Combine the cornstarch, bouillon and water until well blended; stir into beef mixture. Bring to a boil over medium heat; cook and stir until thickened, 2 minutes. Stir in sour cream and heat through (do not boil)., Spread mashed potatoes over the top; sprinkle with cheese. Cover and cook until potatoes are heated through and cheese is melted. Freeze option: Prepare beef mixture as directed but do not add sour cream. Freeze cooled meat mixture in a freezer container. To use, partially thaw in refrigerator overnight. Heat through in a large skillet, stirring occasionally and adding a little water if necessary. Stir in sour cream and proceed as directed.

- Heat oven to 400°F. In 12-inch ovenproof skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat until hot; add beef, and cook 5 to 7 minutes, stirring frequently, until beef is thoroughly cooked. Drain; clean out skillet, and set beef aside. Add butter to same skillet, and melt over medium-high heat. Add onions; cook 5 to 7 minutes or until softened and browned. Stir in garlic, thyme and pepper; cook and stir 30 seconds. Stir in broth and soy sauce; heat to simmering. Return beef to skillet, and simmer 2 to 4 minutes or until sauce is thickened slightly. Remove from heat.
- Make potatoes as directed on pouch. Stir cheeses into potatoes. Spoon mixture over beef mixture in skillet. Bake 18 to 22 minutes or until heated through (at least 165°F in center) and top is slightly puffed and golden brown. Garnish with parsley.

- Preheat oven for 400F.
- Brown the ground beef, onion and garlic, on high heat, in a cast iron skillet. Stir often, ensuring that the beef does not stick to the bottom of the skillet. Once fully cooked, remove from the hot element and drain the grease drippings. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, flour, salt, pepper, peas and corn.
- Spread the mashed potatoes on top of the beef mixture.
- Sprinkle the grated cheese on top.
- Bake in the oven until the cheese is melted and the beef filling is starting to bubble around the sides of the skillet. It should take 15-25 minutes.
- Let the pie rest about 5 minutes before serving.

This is a quick and easy version of a classic, and the guys in my family raved about it. I'm posting here for safe keeping. It's based on a recipe from America's Test Kitchen.

Steps:
- Move oven rack to the upper-middle position and heat the broiler.
- Place the frozen hash browns in a large microwavable bowl and separate the shreds. (I pound them lightly with the back of a wooden spoon and they fall apart.) Toss them with 2 tbsp of the melted butter, 1 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp pepper. Microwave the potatoes, covered, until tender - 7 - 10 minutes on high.
- Cook ground meat and onion in a large oven safe skillet until it is cooked, about 5 minutes. Drain fat off.
- Stir thyme and flour into beef/onion mixture and cook about 1 minute. Add broth and Worcestershire sauce and cook about 6 - 8 minutes until thickened.
- Add peas and carrots to beef mixture and simmer until heated, about a minute, and season with salt and pepper.
- Scatter the cooked hash browns over the top of the beef mixture and brush with the rest of the butter.
- Place the skillet unter the broiler and broil 3 - 5 minutes or until the potatoes have golden brown tips.
- Remove from oven and serve.

- Place a baking sheet on the bottom rack of the oven to catch any spillovers from skillet then preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- Place an 12" or larger oven-safe skillet over medium high heat then add ground beef and shallots. Season with homemade seasoned salt and pepper, then brown. Add garlic and dried herbs then saute for 1 minute or until garlic is very fragrant. Add tomato paste and worcestershire sauce then stir to combine. Sprinkle in flour then stir to combine and cook for 1 minute.
- Gradually add splashes of beef broth while stirring to avoid clumps then simmer, stirring often, until mixture has thickened, 3-4 minutes. Taste then add more seasoned salt and/or pepper if necessary. Remove skillet from heat then stir in frozen vegetables.
- Spoon mashed potatoes on top of meat and vegetables then spread into an even layer. Combine butter and garlic powder in a small dish then use a pastry brush or spoon to brush or drizzle the garlic butter on top. Run a fork around the mashed potatoes like recipe photos.

- Peel the potatoes and cut into quarters. Place in a good sized pot and cover with cold water. Set over HIGH heat, cover and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce heat to LOW and allow potatoes to simmer until tender when pierced with a fork, approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
- Meanwhile, get started on the filling. Add olive oil to a 12-inch oven-proof skillet and place over MEDIUM heat. Add ground beef and cook, stirring to break up.
