I find this beverage extermely refreshing, and I will drink it, or its lemon variant, around the order of once or twice a day. It provides a perky hint of flavor without making the beverage so tart one is driven to add sugar or sugar substitutes -- and it's simple and quick. And unlike commercially-flavored seltzer waters, it tastes real.

1 teaspoon lime juice or 1 teaspoon lemon juice

12 ounces seltzer water or 12 ounces club soda

Steps:

Squirt juice into water tumbler, add ice, add cold seltzer water to fill.
Garnish, if desired, with a thin slice of lemon or lime or orange, and enjoy.

2 Meyer or regular lemons, thinly sliced into rounds, seeds removed
8 sugar cubes
1 1/2 teaspoons Angostura bitters
2 (750-ml) bottles dry Prosecco or other sparkling wine, chilled

Steps:

Muddle lemons, sugar cubes, and bitters in a large measuring glass until lemon slices are softened and sugar is crushed. Divide mixture among 8 wine glasses; fill glasses with Prosecco, pouring very slowly.

This is great for a cookout. Great cool drink. Meyer lemons are a cross between a lemon and a mandarin orange in taste. If you can't find Meyer lemons, the flavor won't be as complex. For every 1/4 cup Meyer lemon juice, substitute 3 tbsp lemon juice plus 1 tbsp orange juice plus 1/2 tsp sugar. Prep time includes chilling time.

1 cup water
1/3 cup sugar
1 rosemary sprig
1 cup fresh meyer lemon juice, chilled (about 8 lemons)
1/3 cup vodka, chilled
2 cups prosecco or 2 cups other sparkling wine, chilled

Steps:

Combine first 3 ingredients in a microwave-safe liquid measuring cup. Microwave at HIGH for 2 1/2 minutes; stir until sugar dissolves. Let stand 10 minutes; discard rosemary. Chill.
Combine sugar mixture, juice, vodka, and prosecco, stirring gently. Serve immediately.
