Yield 16

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 cup white sugar
¼ cup light corn syrup

2 teaspoons almond extract
½ cup sliced almonds
10 drops green food coloring

Steps:

  • Butter one 8 inch square pan; set aside.

  • Remove from heat; stir in vanilla, almond extract, almonds and food color. Pour into pan. Let stand until cool enough to handle. (Taffy should be lukewarm in center as well as at the edges.)

Categories     dessert

Time 55m

Yield 360 pieces/6 pounds

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 pounds sugar
4 pounds corn syrup
2 tablespoons butter
3/4 cups milk
3 drops red or peach coloring
2 teaspoons peach flavoring, for taste
Cornstarch, for sprinkling on pulling table

Steps:

  • In a saucepan, mix together the sugar, corn syrup and butter, stirring over high heat until mixture reaches 240 degrees F on a candy thermometer. Reduce heat and slowly add milk and cook until thermometer reaches 248 degrees F.
  • Pour mixture onto the 4 buttered baking trays. When taffy is cool enough to handle, butter your hands and bring corners to the center to form into a ball. Take all 4 balls and form into 1 large ball.
  • Place onto a table or marble slab so you and a helper can start the pulling process. Start folding and stretching your taffy ball. You should pull the taffy from your friend, fold over and over in your hands, then let your friend pull the taffy from you, repeating this process until the taffy turns light in color. Pulling the taffy adds tiny air bubbles throughout the candy, making it lighter and chewier.
  • Place the taffy on your pulling table/slab, add the color and flavoring, and start the pulling process all over again until the liquids are well incorporated and the taffy is the color you want.
  • Now you can lay the taffy on the table that has a small amount of cornstarch to keep it from sticking. While still soft, press into a 3/4-inch thick sheet. Take a yardstick and cut a straight line with buttered scissors or knife. Continue cutting the taffy into 1/2 to 3/4-inch wide strips. Cut strips into pieces that you want to wrap, about 2-inches. Begin wrapping the pieces in the waxed paper and twisting the ends.

Saltwater Taffy Recipe by Tasty image

Here's what you need: sugar, cornstarch, unsalted butter, light corn syrup, salt, water, vanilla extract, flavored extract, food coloring

Provided by Betsy Carter

Categories     Snacks

Yield 35 pieces

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 cup sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
⅔ cup light corn syrup
1 teaspoon salt
½ cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon flavored extract, of your choice
2 drops food coloring, coloring of your choice

Steps:

  • Add the sugar to a large pot fitted with a candy thermometer. Sift in the cornstarch and whisk into the sugar until well-combined. Add the butter, corn syrup, salt, water, vanilla, and flavor extract of choice to the pot. Whisk to combine, then turn the heat to medium and cook until the mixture reaches 250°F (120°C).
  • Add the food coloring and stir to combine.
  • Pour the candy into a greased heatproof dish and cool until you are able to handle it, 5-10 minutes.
  • Stretch the mixture out 12 inches (30 cm) (or further) and fold it over itself again and again for 10-15 minutes. The taffy will turn from translucent to opaque.
  • When the taffy becomes harder to pull, roll it to about a 30-inch (76-cm) long and 1-inch (2-cm) thick log on a greased surface. Cut the log in half. Then slice the taffy into bite-size chunks.
  • Wrap each piece of taffy in a square of parchment paper and twist the ends to seal.
  • Enjoy!

TAFFY PULL

Taffy Pull image

Provided by Food Network

Time 1h20m

Yield 45 (1-inch) candies

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 1/2 cups sugar
3/4 cup light corn syrup
2/3 cup water
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vegetable glycerin (sold at most party or natural food stores)
2 tablespoons butter
2 teaspoons lemon juice

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan, stir together the sugar, corn syrup, water, salt, and glycerin with a wooden spoon. Cook over medium heat, stirring now and then until a candy thermometer reads 255 degrees F. Stir in the butter. Pour the mixture onto a greased flat pan and fold over the edges with a spatula to keep them from hardening.
  • When the candy is cool enough to handle, brush with lemon juice. Kids grease their hands with butter, take a lump of taffy, and pull and stretch it until it is light and slightly firm. The longer they stretch, pull, and twist the candy, the more air it will have and the closer to beach taffy it will get. The lump can then be cut with scissors into bite-size pieces. When cool, wrap in waxed paper.

OLD-FASHIONED TAFFY PULL

Old-Fashioned Taffy Pull image

Enjoy those childhood memories year-round with this easy-to-make Old-Fashioned Taffy Pull recipe made with granulated or brown sugar recipe.

Provided by Diana Rattray

Categories     Dessert     Candy

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 1/2 cups granulated sugar or packed brown sugar
1 1/2 cups light corn syrup
4 teaspoons white vinegar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup evaporated milk

Steps:

  • Gather the ingredients.
  • Mix all ingredients except milk in a heavy saucepan over low heat. Stir often until sugar is completely dissolved. Increase heat and bring mixture to boiling. Slowly add the evaporated milk in a thin stream so boiling does not stop.
  • Put a candy thermometer in pan; continue stirring. Cook and stir constantly until mixture reaches 248 F (firm ball stage). Dip the pastry brush in water and gently brush sides of the pan to wash crystals from sides of the pan. Do this a few times while candy is cooking.
  • When candy has reached desired temperature, remove from heat, remove thermometer and without scraping sides and bottom of the pan, pour mixture onto a large platter which has been generously greased with margarine.
  • Let the taffy mixture cool until it is cool enough to handle. Grease your hands with margarine; take a small portion of the candy and, using only the tips of your fingers, begin pulling. Candy should be white in color and no longer feel sticky when it has been pulled enough.
  • Twist each pulled strip slightly and place on waxed paper. When all the candy is pulled, cut each strip into 1-inch pieces. Wrap each piece in waxed paper and twist ends. You can get a special colored paper for this. Store in a container with a tight-fitting cover.
  • Serve and enjoy!
