Cheesesteak Panini image

This Cheesesteak Panini Recipe is made with San Luis Sourdough bread offering the taste and texture we all love in a classic sourdough bread.

Provided by Amy Barseghian

Categories     Main Dish

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 loaf San Luis Sourdough bread
2 lbs skirt steak or rib eye steak (thinly sliced)
2 tbsp vegetable oil or canola oil
1 green bell pepper (cut into thin bite strips)
1 medium brown onion (cut into thin bite strips)
8 medium cremini or button mushrooms (thinly sliced)
1/2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
8 slices white American cheese
butter

Steps:

  • Prepare and cut vegetables.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a 10" to 12" skillet to medium heat.
  • Add onion and green bell pepper and cook until they begin to soften, then add the mushrooms.
  • Season with salt and pepper and allow them to caramelize while continuing to stir.
  • Once they are cooked remove from the pan and set aside. Do not clean pan so you can keep the seasoning.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon of oil to the same pan to medium high heat. Add thinly sliced steak to pan, season with salt & pepper and let sit for about 4 to 5 minutes before stirring so the meat can brown.
  • After 4 to 5 minutes begin to stir and cook until fully cooked about 1 to 2 more minutes.
  • Once the meat is cooked, drain grease from the pan into a strainer and then return the meat, onions, bell pepper and mushrooms back to pan and stir to mix.
  • Heat up panini press.
  • Butter the outside of the San Luis Sourdough bread and lay butter side down on panini press.
  • Add meat mixture and 2 slices of white American cheese over top the meat.
  • Add the 2nd slice of sourdough bread to the top of cheese with butter side facing out and close press gently so the sandwich presses together.
  • Cook for a few minutes until the cheese is soft and the bread is a crispy golden brown color.
  • Remove from press and enjoy!

Yield 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 21

½ cup melted butter
24 slices bread, divided
4 slices cheddar cheese
4 slices ham
¼ cup shredded monterey jack cheese
6 slices bacon, cooked, divided
1 boneless, skinless chicken breast, grilled and sliced
2 tablespoons ranch dressing
¼ cup shredded cheddar cheese
6 slices roast beef
½ cup onion, sauteed, divided
6 slices provolone cheese
½ lb steak, grilled, sliced

2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped
4 slices turkey

  • Pour half of the melted butter onto a large sheet tray, brushing it across the entire surface.
  • Shingle 12 slices of the bread onto the sheet pan, making sure each slice overlaps and the bread reaches the edges.
  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Place any fillings you choose onto the bread. You can mix and match any flavor combos you prefer!
  • For the ham and cheese sandwich, place 2 slices of cheddar cheese on the bread, four slices of ham, and 2 more slices of cheddar cheese.
  • For the chicken-bacon-ranch sandwich, place the shredded Monterey Jack cheese, 3 bacon slices, grilled chicken slices, and ranch dressing on the bread.
  • For the roast beef and onion sandwich, sprinkle on the shredded cheddar cheese, sliced roast beef, and half of the sautéed onions.

TONY LUKE'S AUTHENTIC PHILLY CHEESESTEAK

Tony Luke's Authentic Philly Cheesesteak image

I saw Tony Luke prepare this sandwich on a Bobby Flay Throwdown episode. He maintains that the authentic Philly cheesesteak only really has these ingredients.

Provided by commercesd

Categories     < 30 Mins

Time 30m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 lb rib eye steak, frozen, cut very thin
3 cups onions, diced and sauteed
2 cups Cheese Whiz, heated
9 1/4 ounces hoagie rolls

Steps:

  • Try to get thin butcher cut Rib Eye. It is much easier than doing it yourself.
  • Tony Luke fresh bakes his rolls. Make rolls out of fresh baked French bread so they hold up better if you're not making your own.
  • Fry 1/4 to 1/3 pound of the meat on a griddle, moving it as it cooks. It should stay moist, but be thoroughly cooked through. It should have a gray tinge to it.
  • Heat Cheese Whiz and keep warm.
  • Saute a handful of the onions in oil or butter on the grill.
  • Open a roll and grill it till lightly browned.
  • Assemble the sandwiches: roll, slather cheese on one side. Top with sauteed onion. Place meat on the other side and close the sandwich.
  • Serve immediately.
