Candy corn and chocolate are surprisingly compatible in this fun Thanksgiving dessert or hostess gift.

8 ounces good-quality semisweet chocolate, finely chopped
6 tablespoons heavy cream
2 tablespoons good-quality honey, such as Tasmanian
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature
1/2 cup sliced almonds
14 candy corns

Steps:

  • Make the truffles: Put the chocolate in a medium heatproof bowl. Bring a saucepan filled with an inch or so of water to a very slow simmer; set the bowl with the chocolate over, but not touching, the water. Stir the chocolate occasionally until melted and smooth. (Alternatively, put the chocolate in a medium microwave-safe bowl. Melt at 50 percent power in the microwave until soft, about 1 minute. Stir, and continue to heat until completely melted, about 1 minute more.)
  • Meanwhile, bring the cream and honey to a simmer in a small saucepan over medium heat (or in the microwave). Gradually whisk the cream into the chocolate until smooth and shiny. Whisk in the butter until very smooth. If possible, switch to an immersion blender and blend for about 1 minute for a satiny texture. Cover the surface of the chocolate with plastic wrap; chill in the refrigerator until firm, about 1 hour.
  • Transfer 2 tablespoons of the chocolate mixture to a small resealable plastic bag and snip a tiny piece off one corner. Twist the top of the bag to push the chocolate mixture down to the cut corner. Set the prepared bag aside.
  • Line a 13-by-9-inch baking sheet with parchment paper. Scoop slightly rounded tablespoon-size portions from the remaining chilled chocolate mixture. With gloved hands, roll each portion into a ball. Refrigerate until set, about 15 minutes.
  • Decorate the truffles: Let the truffles soften slightly at room temperature for about 10 minutes to make it easier to insert the almond slices. Using a tweezers if desired, gently insert a row of 8 almond slices pointed-ends down in the back of each truffle to make a fanned turkey tail. Press a candy corn, pointy-end facing toward you, on the top of each truffle to make the turkey's face and beak. Press an almond slice underneath each candy corn beak to make the turkey's waddle. Place two almond slices underneath each truffle to make the turkey's feet.
  • Warm the reserved bag of chocolate mixture in the microwave until soft, 5 to 8 seconds. Squeeze the bag to pipe eyes onto the candy corn faces, and pipe decorative striped lines across the almond tails. Let set at room temperature for 30 minutes.
  • Once set, the truffles can be held in a cool spot, out of the refrigerator, for up to 2 hours. Otherwise, refrigerate, covered, for up to 5 days. The truffles taste best if served at room temperature, not straight from the refrigerator.

1/4 cup milk chocolate candy coating wafers
Sliced almonds
10 milk chocolate truffles
10 autumn candy corn
1 Betty Crocker™ Fruit by the Foot™ strawberry fruit snack

Steps:

  • Melt milk chocolate candy coating wafers according to package instructions.
  • Place a small circle of melted candy coating on parchment paper (about the size of a quarter). Press 5 sliced almonds in the melted chocolate circle in a fan shape for the turkey feathers.
  • While the candy coating is still soft, but not hot, place a milk chocolate truffle in the middle of the circle. Let set completely.
  • Cut the tip off of the autumn candy corn.
  • Dip cut end of candy corn into the remaining melted candy coating and attach to the middle of the truffle for the beak.
  • Using kitchen shears, cut a small teardrop shape out of the Betty Crocker™ Fruit by the Foot™ for the turkey's wattle. Attach under the beak with melted candy coating.
  • Add 2 dots with a black edible marker for eyes.

  • Mix the crumbled sugar cookies, sugar, cream cheese and chocolate-hazelnut spread in a medium bowl until completely combined. Steps:

  • Heat oven to 375°F. Make and bake drop cookies as directed on pouch. Cool completely, at least 20 minutes.
  • In food processor, process half of the cookies until fine crumbs. Remove and set aside; continue and process remaining cookies to fine crumbs. Combine all of cookie crumb mixture in food processor. Add cream cheese. Process until well combined and can be pressed into a ball, 1 to 2 minutes. Shape cookie mixture into 24 (1 1/2-inch) balls; place on cookie sheet lined with waxed paper. Refrigerate 30 minutes.

Steps:

  • In the microwave or in a metal bowl over a pan of simmering water, melt unsweetened chocolate, 1 cup of the chocolate chips, and the butter stirring occasionally until smooth. Remove from heat and set aside to cool. In a large bowl, whip eggs and sugar until thick and pale, about 2 minutes. Stir in the vanilla and the chocolate mixture until well mixed. Combine the flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt; gradually stir into the chocolate mixture. Fold in remaining 1 cup chocolate chips. Cover dough and chill for at least an hour or overnight.

8 ounces cream cheese ((room temperature))
2 cups white chocolate chips
Christmas sprinkles ((for topping))

Steps:

  • Place sugar cookies in a food processor or crush in a Ziploc bag with a rolling pin until fine crumbs form.
  • Pour sugar cookie crumbs in a large mixing bowl.
  • Use a hand mixer and beat in softened cream cheese until well combined.
  • Roll into 1-inch balls and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  • Place in the freezer for 30 minutes.
  • While truffles freeze, melt the white chocolate by placing the white chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 2 minutes, stopping to stir every 30 seconds.
