A nice fruity drink served over ice for a delicious cool-down on a nice day. You can use any fruit, but melons are the best.

3 slices cantaloupe, peeled and seeded
6 tablespoons white sugar
1 cup ice cubes

Steps:

  • Place water, cantaloupe, and sugar in a blender; blend until smooth. Divide ice into two glasses and pour cantaloupe mixture over ice.

Aguas frescas, water-based fruit drinks, are a cool way to make your fresh fruit go further. Try this recipe with watermelon, mango, or whatever you have.

½ cup sugar
4 cups water
4 cups chopped fruit (watermelon, cantaloupe, pineapple, papaya, strawberries, oranges, peaches, mangoes, or any combination)
Ice cubes
Lemon or lime wedges (optional)

Steps:

  • Stir the sugar and water together in a large pitcher until the sugar dissolves. Measure out 1 cup. Puree the fruit and the 1 cup sugar water in a blender. Pour the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer back into the pitcher with the sugar water, mashing with a whisk or wooden spoon to eliminate any pulp.
  • Taste and add more sugar, if desired. Serve over ice, with a lemon or lime wedge, if desired.

1/4 cup sugar, plus more if needed
Pinch kosher salt
Fresh lime juice, if needed
Ice, for serving

Steps:

  • Put the fruit, sugar, salt and 1 cup cold water in a blender and puree until completely smooth. Taste and season with sugar to make it sweeter or lime juice to make it more tart if needed. Transfer to a large pitcher and stir in 4 cups cold water. Serve cold over ice.
