This recipe makes 7 quart jars of filling for apple pies. 2 quarts make a 9 inch pie. Need to have 7 one quart canning jars, with rings and lids.

Ingredients

4 ½ cups white sugar
1 cup cornstarch
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 teaspoons salt
10 cups water
3 tablespoons lemon juice
2 drops yellow food coloring
6 pounds apples

Steps:

in a large pan, mix sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add salt and water and mix well. Bring to a boil and cook until thick and bubbly. Remove from heat and add lemon juice and food coloring.
Sterilize canning jars, lids and rings by boiling them in a large pot of water.
Peel, core, and slice apples. Pack the sliced apples into hot canning jars, leaving a 1/2 inch headspace.
Fill jars with hot syrup, and gently remove air bubbles with a knife.
Put lids on and process in a water bath canner for 20 minutes.

Well I wanted to "Make" something for Christmas. Easy to make and makes a nice gift. Also instead of using a favorite bath salt of different size you can make another size bath salt with the same recipe.

Ingredients

1 cup sea salt
1/4 cup baking soda, good for the skin
food coloring
15 ounces your favorite bath salts, that are a different size and texture of the ones you have made

Steps:

Mix Everything in a bowl. Break up clumps with a fork. If you use a favorite type of bath salt for the texture then it has a scent if not, you can add any type of purfume you want.
Now place into a container, and there ya go!

"APPLE PIE" BATH SALTS

Treat yourself and also make this as a gift. I did not give amounts of the fragrance oil, just add them by "smell" Use the layering technique, don't make it too wet with the oils because the layers will become the same color then, or just mix it all together. The salts will have a light golden brown color.

6 cups sea salt
1 cup baking soda
apple fragrance oil
cinnamon fragrance oil
vanilla fragrance oil
2 -3 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Steps:

Put the salt and the baking soda in a large glass bowl, mix well, add the fragrances.
If you want to layer the salt in jars take half of the salt out and put in another bowl so that stays white.
Add the cinnamon to the other half and mix well.
Cover the bowl and leave for an hour.
Uncover and take a good sniff, you can adjust the smell and add some more fragrance.
Put in jars, when layering, slightly tilt the jar, scoop a few spoonfulls white, then the cinnamon and so on.
Top the lid with nice wrapping paper or cotton, tie a string around and attach a label.
Use several spoonfulls for a bath.
