SAVORY DUTCH BABY RECIPE BY TASTY

Savory Dutch Baby Recipe by Tasty image

Here's what you need: large eggs, unsalted butter, whole milk, all-purpose flour, kosher salt, fresh thyme leaf, fresh chives, unsalted butter, pancetta, shallot, garlic, medium sweet potato, kosher salt, lacinato kale, shredded smoked gouda cheese, eggs, fresh chive, freshly ground black pepper

Provided by Chris Rosa

Categories     Breakfast

Time 1h10m

Yield 2 servings

Number Of Ingredients 18

3 large eggs, room temperature
1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
¾ cup whole milk, warm
¾ cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon kosher salt
2 tablespoons fresh thyme leaf
2 tablespoons fresh chives, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
5 oz pancetta, diced
1 shallot, medium, thinly sliced
1 teaspoon garlic, minced
1 medium sweet potato, diced
¾ teaspoon kosher salt, plus more to taste
½ bunch lacinato kale, stemmed, chopped into 1/2 in strips
¾ cup shredded smoked gouda cheese
2 eggs, sunny-side
fresh chive, thinly sliced
freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Add the eggs, melted butter, milk, flour, and salt to a blender and blend on medium speed until frothy. Stir in the thyme and chives. Let the batter rest for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Place a 10-inch (25 cm) cast iron skillet in the oven to warm while it preheats.
  • Carefully remove the hot pan from the oven and melt the butter in the pan, swirling to coat evenly. Pour the batter into the hot pan and quickly return to the oven.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, until the Dutch baby is golden brown and has risen up the sides of the pan considerably.
  • While the Dutch baby bakes, make the filling: Add the pancetta to a cold, large, high-walled skillet. Turn the heat to medium and begin rendering the fat from the pancetta, stirring occasionally, 6-8 minutes. When the pancetta is crisp, remove from the pan with a slotted spoon and set aside, leaving the rendered fat behind.
  • Add the shallot to the pan and sauté for 1-2 minutes, until beginning to soften. Add the garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  • Add the sweet potato to the pan and season with ½ teaspoon of salt. Cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sweet potato is golden brown and tender.
  • Add the kale and cook for 1-2 minutes, until just wilted. Season with the remaining ¼ teaspoon of salt, plus more to taste. Remove the pan from the heat and set aside.
  • Assemble the Dutch baby. Once the Dutch baby is finished baking, remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle all over with the shredded Gouda. Top with the sweet potato and kale hash, reserved pancetta, and sunny-side up eggs. Garnish with chives and pepper.
  • Enjoy!

APPLE SPICE DUTCH BABY RECIPE BY TASTY

Apple Spice Dutch Baby Recipe by Tasty image

Everyone's favorite Dutch popover pancake gets a seasonal spin! A homemade apple spice blend flavors both the Dutch baby batter and the sliced apple filling. Serve it up with some vanilla ice cream and butterscotch sauce for extra decadence!

Provided by Tikeyah Whittle

Categories     Bakery Goods

Time 1h40m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 17

1 ¼ teaspoons McCormick® Ground Cinnamon
½ teaspoon McCormick® ground ginger
¼ teaspoon McCormick® ground allspice
⅛ teaspoon ground cardamom
⅛ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
3 large eggs, room temperature
¾ cup milk, room temperature
¾ cup all purpose flour
½ teaspoon kosher salt
½ teaspoon McCormick® vanilla extract
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold
2 honeycrisp apples, sliced into ⅓-inch-thick wedges
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
vanilla ice cream
Butterscotch sauce

Steps:

  • Make the apple spice blend: In a small bowl, mix together the cinnamon, ginger, allspice, cardamom, and nutmeg with a fork to combine.
  • Make the Dutch baby: Add the eggs, milk, flour, 1¼ teaspoons of the spice blend, the salt, vanilla, and sugar to a blender. Blend on medium speed until well combined and frothy, about 1 minute.
  • Transfer the batter to an airtight container and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, up to overnight.
  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat for 1-2 minutes. Add the butter and melt, swirling to coat the sides of the pan. Pour in the batter and immediately transfer to the oven. Bake for 20-22 minutes, or until the Dutch baby is puffed and golden brown. Remove the Dutch baby from the oven and cool for 5 minutes. It will deflate slightly as it cools.
  • While the Dutch baby bakes, make the apple filling: in a medium bowl, sprinkle the apples with the remaining teaspoon of apple spice and the sugar and toss until well coated.
  • Melt the butter in a medium skillet over medium heat until foaming. Add the apples and stir to coat. Cook for 3-4 minutes, until the apples have softened, but aren't mushy. Remove the apples from the skillet and set aside.
  • Just before serving, top the Dutch baby with the warm apple filling, vanilla ice cream, and a drizzle of butterscotch sauce.
  • Enjoy!

2 tablespoons granulated sugar, divided
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup whole milk
2 extra-large eggs, at room temperature
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

APPLE-CHEDDAR DUTCH BABY

Apple-Cheddar Dutch Baby image

This dish would be just as welcome on the brunch table as on the dinner table, and I wouldn't fault you for adding a little maple syrup.

Provided by Jenna Helwig

Yield 4 or 5 servings

Number Of Ingredients 7

4 tablespoons (½ stick) unsalted butter
2 apples (such as Honeycrisp), cored and sliced
1 teaspoon kosher salt, divided
8 large eggs
1 cup milk
1 cup all-purpose flour
1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese (preferably smoked or extra sharp; about 6 ounces)

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F.
  • Heat the butter in a 10-inch oven-safe skillet over medium heat. Once it's bubbling, add the apples and ¼ teaspoon of the salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the apples are just tender, 5 to 7 minutes.
  • While the apples cook, whisk together the eggs, milk, flour, and remaining ¾ teaspoon salt until mostly smooth. It's okay if a few small lumps remain.
  • Pour the egg mixture into the pan with the apples. Top with the shredded cheese. Transfer the pan to the oven and bake until puffed and golden, 20 to 25 minutes. Cut into wedges to serve.

Time 40m

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 12

3 Earl Grey tea bags, divided
½ cup milk
2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar
3 eggs
½ cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 pinch salt
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 apple - peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
4 tablespoons packed brown sugar
1 pinch ground nutmeg
1 pinch cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Heat milk in a small saucepan over medium heat until simmering. Place 2 tea bags in a bowl and pour hot milk on top. Steep for 5 minutes.
  • Carefully squeeze tea bags to release as much liquid as possible; discard tea bags. Let milk cool completely.

  • Whisk eggs, flour, tea-infused milk, vanilla extract, and salt together in a large bowl until smooth. Pour batter through a mesh sieve to remove any remaining lumps.

  • Bake until pancake is set, puffed, and golden brown, 13 to 15 minutes.
  • Shake skillet to loosen pancake and transfer to a serving plate. Dust with Earl Grey-sugar mixture.
