This is a recipe I have developed over a number of years. This is the only spaghetti sauce my family will request! Very easy to make. I hope your family enjoys it as much as mine does!

Number Of Ingredients 15

1 1/2 lbs ground beef
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced (to taste)
2 bay leaves
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon italian seasoning
1 teaspoon salt (, or to taste)
ground pepper
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
2 (16 ounce) cans tomato sauce
1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes
8 ounces fresh mushrooms, sliced and sauteed in butter (optional)
parmesan cheese, freshly grated (optional)

Steps:

  • Brown the ground beef, onion and garlic in olive oil with bay leaves, oregano, basil, Italian Seasoning, salt and pepper.
  • Add tomato paste, tomato sauce and diced tomatoes.
  • Stir well and bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  • Cover and simmer for 1 1/2 hours.
  • Use sauce to top your cooked spaghetti.
  • Top with sauteed mushroom.
  • Pass the Parmesan.

A sweeter-than-usual spaghetti sauce. I never make it the same way twice. Try varying the spices for different flavors.

1 pound lean ground beef
1 onion, chopped
2 (15 ounce) cans tomato sauce
¼ cup white sugar
¼ cup butter
2 teaspoons dried oregano
¼ tablespoon dried basil
salt to taste
ground black pepper to taste
1 pinch garlic powder

Steps:

  • Saute the beef and onion. Drain.
  • Stir in the tomato sauce, butter and sugar. Add the oregano, basil, salt, pepper and garlic powder to taste. Cook over low heat until hot.

I've had friends make this recipe without the bacon and it just isn't the same. If you'd like to cut fat, use turkey bacon and decrease the oil and butter the onion is sauteed in. Adjust the amount of tomatoes/puree depending on how thick you like your sauce. May use Italian sausage instead of ground beef, but you may need to adjust herb quantities.

1/4 cup olive oil
1/2 cup butter
1 cup onion, diced
1 lb ground beef
4 slices bacon, diced
2 minced garlic cloves
1/2 tablespoon salt
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
2 ounces red wine
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon sweet basil
1/2 teaspoon fennel
1/2 teaspoon oregano
3 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
1 cup tomatoes
1 cup tomato puree
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1/2 cup carrot, finely diced
1/2 cup celery, finely diced

Steps:

  • Saute onion in oil and butter.
  • Add ground beef and bacon and brown, add garlic and sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Add wine and season with red pepper, basil, fennel, oregano and chopped parsley.
  • Add tomatoes, puree, paste, carrots and celery.
  • Simmer at least 30 minutes.

1 1/2 lbs. ground round
1 large onion, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
1 clove garlic, chopped
2 cans tomato paste
1 8 oz. can tomato sauce
1 can stewed tomatoes
1 tbs. Italian seasoning
1 tbs. Worcestersshire sauce
2 tbs. sugar
1 cup water

Steps:

  • Brown the beef in a large stock pot, then drain off the fat. add the onion, green pepper and garlic. Saute until the onion is tender. add the tomto sauce, stewed tomatoes, seasonings and water. Simmer for 30 minutes. Let cool. The sauce will keep for several days covered and refigerated. Serve with spaghetti or your favorite pasta.
