1 cup cooked rice
1 cup water
1/4 teaspoon chili powder
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 onion, chopped
1 (10 ounce) can tomato soup
1/8 teaspoon pepper
2 cups shredded cabbage

Steps:

  • Put 1/2 of the shredded cabbage in greased casserole dish.
  • brown hamburger and onion, pour off grease.
  • Add rice,soup,water, and seasonings to hamburger mixture.
  • Put 1/2 mixture on top of cabbage in casserole dish.
  • Repeat with remaining cabbage and beef mixture.
  • Bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees, top with cheese and bake for another 25-30 minutes.

1 1/2 to 2 pounds ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1 tablespoon oil
1 teaspoon garlic, minced
2 (15-ounce) cans tomatoes, diced
1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
1 cup water
1 small cabbage head, chopped
1 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup uncooked rice, optional

Steps:

  • In a deep dish skillet with a small amount of oil, brown ground beef, and onion. Drain. Add the minced garlic to the ground beef with onions and give it a quick saute. Add in water, diced tomatoes and tomato sauce. Season with salt and pepper. Toss in the uncooked rice at this point if using. Place chopped cabbage in pan, and toss to combine all ingredients. Cover the pan with lid and simmer for 30 minutes or until cabbage has cooked.

1-1/2 lbs. Lean ground beef
1 cup Chopped onion
1-1/4 cup Tomato juice or
10 oz Can of condensed tomato soup
1/2 tsp. Salt
1/2 tsp. Pepper
8 cups Coarsely shredded cabbage, lightly packed
1/3 cup Long grain white rice

Steps:

  • Cook bacon in large frying pan on medium until crisp. Transfer with slotted spoon to paper towels to drain. Set aside. Heat 2 tsp. (10 mL) drippings in same pan on medium. Add ground beef and onion. Scramble-fry for about 10 minutes until beef is no longer pink. Drain. Add next 4 ingredients. Stir. Remove from heat. Spread cabbage evenly in ungreased 9 x 13 inch (22 x 33 cm) pan. Press down lightly. Sprinkle rice over cabbage. Scatter bacon over rice. Spread beef mixture on top. Cover with foil. Bake in 350°F (175°C) oven for about 1 1/2 hours until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed. This is a flavourful version of cabbage rolls without all the work! It's really good served with mashed potatoes. I think this dish is great as is but if you really don't like much salt in your food I would only add half of the onion soup mix. This recipe is weight watchers core when made without the addition of the optional cheese.

1 lb lean ground beef or 1 lb ground pork
1 onion, chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
4 tablespoons Minute brown rice
1 (1 ounce) envelope onion soup mix
1 lb Coleslaw
1 (398 ml) can tomato sauce
1 (10 ounce) can tomato soup
3/4 cup water
2 cups cheese, shredded (optional)

Steps:

  • Brown meat, onion and garlic. Drain well.
  • Stir rice and onion soup mix into meat mixture.
  • Place coleslaw in a lightly greased 9x13 glass pan.
  • Spread meat mixture evenly over the cabbage.
  • Mix together the tomato sauce, tomato soup and water and pour over the cabbage and meat.
  • Top with cheese, if using.
  • Cover and bake at 350 degrees for an hour and a half.

1/2 cup long grain rice
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 lb ground beef
1 onion, finely chopped
1 head cabbage, chopped medium
1 (14 1/2 ounce) can tomatoes, chopped
3 cups tomato sauce (can substitute half of this amount with salsa for a robust tasting sauce)
2 cups water
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375.
  • Place rice in small saucepan; cover with water and bring to boil.
  • Simmer 5 minutes; drain.
  • Heat oil in large skillet over medium-high heat; add beef and onion and cook until beef is no longer pink and onions are softened.
  • Drain off excess fat.
  • Stir in rice, cabbage, chopped tomatoes, tomato sauce, salsa if using, water, salt and pepper.
  • Pour into a roasting pan; cover and bake about 1 hour.
  • Stir and add 1/2 c.
  • more water if necessary.
  • Cook 1 hour longer or until cabbage is very tender.
  • Makes 8 Generous servings.
  • Any leftovers can be frozen for later use.

I use to make regular cabbage rolls until I found this recipe. Now, instead, I make this and it is as good as the regular cabbage rolls and alot easier.

2 pounds ground beef
1 cup chopped onion
1 (29 ounce) can tomato sauce
3 ½ pounds chopped cabbage
1 cup uncooked white rice
1 teaspoon salt
2 (14 ounce) cans beef broth

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • In a large skillet, brown beef in oil over medium high heat until redness is gone. Drain off fat.
  • In a large mixing bowl combine the onion, tomato sauce, cabbage, rice and salt. Add meat and mix all together. Pour mixture into a 9x13 inch baking dish. Pour broth over meat mixture and bake in the preheated oven, covered, for 1 hour. Stir, replace cover and bake for another 30 minutes.
