CHEESY BACON SNACK BREAD



Cheesy Bacon Snack Bread image

Frozen bread dough is thawed and topped with cheese and bacon to make this hearty bread.

1 (1-pound) loaf frozen white bread dough , thawed according to package directions
2 tablespoons Land O Lakes® Butter melted
1/2 teaspoon onion salt
1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke, if desired
2 cups (8 ounces) shredded Cheddar cheese
5 slices (1/3 cup) crisply cooked bacon, * crumbled
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Steps:

  • Press dough into greased 15x10x1-inch baking pan or into 15x10x1-inch rectangle on greased baking sheet.
  • Combine melted butter, onion salt and liquid smoke in bowl. Brush evenly over dough. Cover; let rise in warm place 45-60 minutes or until double in size.
  • Heat oven to 375°F.
  • Prick dough carefully all over with fork. Sprinkle cheese and bacon evenly over dough. Bake 15-20 minutes or until edges of dough are golden brown and cheese begins to brown. Sprinkle with parsley. Cool 10 minutes. Cut into serving pieces; serve warm.

1 ¼ teaspoons salt
1 clove garlic, minced
1 ¼ cups water
¼ cup Mazola® Vegetable Plus! Oil
2 eggs
8 ounces shredded cheese blend (Cheddar Jack, Cheddar mozzarella, etc.)
6 slices cooked bacon, coarsely chopped

Steps:

  • Combine 1-1/2 cups flour, undissolved yeast, Italian herb seasoning, salt and garlic in a large mixer bowl. Heat water and oil until very warm (120 degrees to 130 degrees F); gradually add to flour mixture. Beat 2 minutes at medium speed of electric mixer, scraping bowl occasionally. Add eggs and 1 cup flour; beat 2 minutes at high speed. Stir in 1 cup cheese and remaining flour to make a stiff batter. Spread batter on greased 15 x 10-inch jelly roll pan or rimmed baking sheet with at least 1-inch sides. Sprinkle with remaining cheese; top with bacon. Cover; let rise in warm, draft-free place until doubled in size, about 30 minutes.
  • Bake at 375 degrees F for 25 to 30 minutes or until done. Cover loosely with foil during last 5 to 10 minutes of baking if cheese begins to overbrown. Remove from pan; cool on wire rack. Serve as strips or squares, or slice and use for sandwiches.

  • Preheat the oven to 200C/fan180C/gas 6. Grease the base and sides of a 450g loaf tin and line the base with baking paper.
  • Snip the bacon into strips and dry-fry in a pan until crisp, then cool.
  • Meanwhile, put the flour, baking powder, salt and mustard powder into a bowl and stir. Add the cheese, bacon, egg, 225ml milk and parsley. Stir well with a wooden spoon until it has a soft dropping consistency – add extra milk, if needed.
  • Spread in the tin and bake for 25 minutes, until risen, golden brown and just firm to the touch. Serve warm or cold, with butter and cheese, if you like.

  • Cut each slice of white bread in half horizontally. Spread with cream cheese. Tightly roll each piece of bread with half a piece of bacon. The bacon should be on the outside of the bread. Secure with toothpicks.
  • Arrange roll ups in a single layer on a medium baking dish. Bake in the preheated oven 30 minutes, or until bacon is no longer pink and bread is lightly browned. Serve warm.
