GARLIC SESAME TOFU



Garlic Sesame Tofu image

For an easy weeknight dinner, look no further than this garlic sesame tofu! It's so easy to make, requires only 10 minutes of prep time and is completely vegan and gluten free.

1 tbsp soy sauce or tamari
1 14 ounce block extra firm tofu
1 tbsp corn starch
3 tbsp breadcrumbs (I used gluten free)
1/3 cup low sodium soy sauce or tamari
2 tsp toasted sesame oil
1 tbsp rice vinegar
2-3 tbsp honey or maple syrup
1 tbsp corn starch
4 tbsp water (divided)
5 cloves garlic
1 tbsp olive oil

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 400 Fahrenheit.
  • Drain the excess liquid from the tofu and dry it off with a towel*.
  • Cut into 1 inch cubes and add to a large bowl. Toss with the soy sauce.
  • Toss with the cornstarch, then the breadcrumbs until all pieces are evenly coated.
  • Add to the baking tray and bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.
  • During the final 10 minutes, prep the sauce.
  • Mince the garlic and saute with 1 tbsp neutral oil in a small saute pan for 2-3 minutes or until lightly browned.
  • Add in the soy sauce, honey or maple syrup, rice vinegar, 2 tbsp of water and sesame oil.
  • Whisk together the cornstarch and other 2 tbsp of water in a bowl and add to the pan.
  • Heat over low heat for 3-5 minutes or until the sauce bubbles and thickens.
  • When the tofu is done, toss with the sauce. Serve over rice with steamed broccoli or enjoy as is!

1 pound tofu, sliced into 8 even pieces
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons agave nectar
1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger
1 tablespoon sesame seeds, or to taste

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly oil a large baking sheet.
  • Gently press tofu pieces to release as much water as possible. Arrange tofu on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Whisk soy sauce, agave nectar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger together in a bowl until marinade is evenly combined. Brush half of the marinade over tofu pieces.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Flip tofu and brush remaining marinade over tofu. Sprinkle sesame seeds over tofu. Continue baking until tofu is crisp, about 30 minutes more. Transfer tofu to a wire rack using a spatula; cool.

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  • Place the cubed tofu into a sealable plastic bag or container. Pour the marinade over the tofu and shake until well coated. Place in the fridge for 30-60 minutes, turning every so often to make sure all sides of the tofu get coated.
  • Once the tofu has marinated, remove it from the marinade (but SAVE the remaining marinade!) and place it onto the parchment lined baking sheet. Bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping the pieces over halfway through baking, until crispy on the outsides.
