D's Famous Salsa image

This is a Texas recipe I've developed and refined over many years. It's very fast, easy, and I usually have everything on hand. I often give it as gifts to my family back East.

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 (14.5 ounce) cans stewed tomatoes
½ onion, finely diced
1 teaspoon minced garlic
½ lime, juiced
1 teaspoon salt
¼ cup canned sliced green chiles, or to taste
3 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro

Steps:

  • Place the tomatoes, onion, garlic, lime juice, salt, green chiles, and cilantro in a blender or food processor. Blend on low to desired consistency.

I just throw this together, but it is very popular and requested at potlucks. Serve with tortilla chips.

Number Of Ingredients 7

4 large tomatoes, diced
½ large onion, minced
3 cloves garlic, chopped
⅔ cup chopped fresh cilantro
1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
salt to taste

Steps:

  • In a small mixing bowl, combine tomatoes, onion, garlic, cilantro and lime juice. Add jalapenos 2 teaspoons at a time, tasting after each addition to see how hot the salsa has become. Jalapeno peppers vary in heat, so it is important to taste the salsa to ensure you do not make it too hot to handle. Salt to taste. Enjoy!

  • Add the diced tomatoes, onion, garlic cloves, jalapeños, cilantro, lime juice, honey, salt, pepper, cumin, and chipotle chile pepper powder (if using) to the jar of a blender or bowl of a large food processor. Blend or process until the ingredients are broken down and pureed to your desired smoothness and consistency. Adjust seasonings to taste, adding more salt and pepper, if necessary.
  • Transfer to a tightly sealed container and chill in the refrigerator for at least one hour before serving, to allow the flavors to blend. Or, if you can't wait, serve immediately!
