Your kitty will purr for these kitty cat treats with shredded carrots and a sprinkling of catnip! Treat your sweet fur baby today!

Provided by Tina Verrelli - epicuricloud.com

Time 27m

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 tablespoons oil (I use coconut or olive oil)
1 1/4 cups flour - plus additional flour for rolling dough (Use whatever flour your cat can have - I used oat)
1 tablespoon dried catnip (optional)
3/4 cup finely shredded carrot
1 large egg, lightly beaten
cold water (as needed)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In medium bowl add oil and mix in 1 cup of the flour until mixture looks sandy.
  • Stir in catnip and carrots.
  • Mix in egg. Add a little water if the mixture looks too dry and isn't holding together. Add a little flour if the mixture looks too wet and sticky. (Sometimes the carrots can be more wet or dry.)
  • Sprinkle flat surface with a little additional flour and roll or pat out dough to ¼ inch thickness. Sprinkle dough with additional flour as needed.
  • Prick dough all over with a fork. Use pizza wheel to cut dough into 1/2 inch squares.
  • Arrange squares on prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake for about 12 minutes or until starting to brown. (Bake longer for drier texture.)
  • Cool on baking sheet.
  • Store in airtight container for several days or freeze for longer storage. (If baked to a softer texture store in refrigerator.)

CATNIP TREATS (FOR CATS)

Catnip Treats (For Cats) image

This recipe was originally at www.divinerecipes.com, but I tweaked it. In the original it was suggested that you could use Tuna oil or Chicken stock/bouillon instead of the beef. It also said to form into biscuits by flatteng 1/2" balls of dough. Being lazy, I used my breadmaker to mix the ingredients and then did the rolling out method described below.

Provided by Canwi

Categories     Grains

Time 1h

Yield 5 cups, 15 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 1/2 cups rolled oats
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup beef stock
1/2 cup powdered milk
2 tablespoons catnip

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients very well. (It can be very crumbly.).
  • Cut a sheet of parchment paper to fit your baking tray/cookie sheet.
  • Roll out flat to ~3mm thick (~1/8" thick) on the parchment paper.
  • Using a pizza wheel or sharp knife, cut the dough into cat-sized portions. I usually aim for pieces ~1cm (~0.5")square.
  • Slide the parchment paper onto your baking tray/cookie sheet.
  • Bake at 180 degrees C (350 degrees F) for 30 minutes, or until the biscuits are slightly browned.
  • Cool before serving to your favourite feline!
