Ahhh, back to the past with this recipe. There was a period in my life when my husband and I entertained alot. This was always a hit.

Number Of Ingredients 5

8 ounces cream cheese, soften
2 tablespoons anchovy paste
1 teaspoon lemon juice, fresh
1 teaspoon onion, finely grated
2 tablespoons chives, finely chopped

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, beat cream cheese with a large spoon until smooth.
  • Beat in anchovy past, lemon juice, and onion.
  • Adjust for seasoning. Add more lemon juice to cut saltiness as needed.
  • Serve on plain crackers or cocktail rye bread.

Hungarian Cheese Spread image

Cheese spread that is great for parties as a cracker spread or as a veggie dip! Cook time is actually time to refrigerate!!!

Yield 2 1/2 cups

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 cup large-curd cottage cheese or 1 cup Liptauer cheese
1 cup butter or 1 cup cream cheese, at room temperature
2 tablespoons anchovy paste
2 tablespoons prepared mustard
4 tablespoons grated onions
1 tablespoon Hungarian paprika
2 teaspoons caraway seeds

Steps:

  • Combine large-curd cottage cheese OR lipto cheese and butter OR cream cheese in food processor.
  • Add anchovy paste, mustard, onion, caraway seeds and paprika.
  • Process, turning machine off twice during processing to scrape down sides, for 1 minute until smooth.
  • Transfer sread to a small bowl, cover, and refrigerate for at least 24 hours to allow flavor to develop.
  • Serve as a spread for crackers or as a dip for raw veggies such as carrots, celery and zucchini sticks!
  • ENJOY!

1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened*
2 tablespoons anchovy paste
1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives
1 to 2 tablespoon light cream or milk
1 package Keebler® Zesta® Original cracker

Steps:

  • In small bowl stir together cream cheese and anchovy paste. Stir in chives and enough cream or milk to make of desired spreading consistency. Garnish as desired. Serve with crackers.*NOTE: Soften cream cheese in microwave at high for 15 to 20 seconds.

For those of you who love anchovies, here is a quick and easy spread my grandfather and uncle used to make. This spread can be made with the rolled anchovies with capers too. This spread goes well with unsalted crackers and your choice of ice cold beer!

Steps:

  • Set cream cheese at room temperature to soften.
  • Cut anchovies into tiny bits.
  • Cut pimientos into tiny bits.
  • In a bowl blend all ingredients well
  • Serve with unsalted crackers!
