Mushroom Gravy image

This easy but flavorful gravy made with mixed mushrooms and vegetable broth is perfect for eaters of any stripe.

Yield 8 to 10 servings

Number Of Ingredients 7

4 tablespoons unsalted butter
12 ounces mixed sliced mushrooms, such as shiitake, cremini and/or white
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons Marsala wine
2 1/2 cups low-sodium vegetable broth
2 teaspoons fresh thyme leaves

Steps:

  • Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the mushrooms and cook, stirring occasionally, until dry and tender, about 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Sprinkle the flour over the mushrooms and cook, stirring until lightly browned, about 1 minute. Add the Marsala and broth and continue to cook until it comes to a boil and thickens, about 5 minutes. Stir in the thyme and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper.

2-1/2 pounds beef top round steak
1 to 2 envelopes onion soup mix
1 can (10-3/4 ounces) condensed cream of mushroom soup, undiluted
1/2 cup water
Mashed potatoes, optional

Steps:

  • Cut steak into 6 serving pieces; place in a 3-qt. slow cooker. Combine the soup mix, soup and water; pour over beef. Cover and cook on low for 7-8 hours or until meat is tender. If desired, serve with mashed potatoes., Freeze option: Place beef in freezer containers; top with gravy. Cool and freeze. To use, partially thaw in refrigerator overnight. Heat through in a covered saucepan, stirring occasionally; add water if necessary.

½ (10.75 ounce) can milk

Steps:

  • Whisk the cream of mushroom soup, soy sauce, parsley, black pepper, Italian seasoning, chili powder, sugar, and milk together in a saucepan until smooth. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, then reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

1 pound small fresh mushrooms, thinly sliced
6 tablespoons butter, divided
1 large onion, finely chopped
2 celery ribs, chopped
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon pepper
2 cups water
1/2 cup sour cream

Steps:

  • In a large cast-iron or other heavy skillet, saute mushrooms in 3 tablespoons butter in batches; set aside. In the same pan, saute onion and celery in 1 tablespoon butter. Add the flour, salt, pepper and remaining butter; cook and stir until smooth., Gradually add water. Bring to a boil; cook and stir until thickened, about 2 minutes. Stir in mushrooms and heat through. Remove from heat; stir in sour cream.

One of my favorite mushroom sauce recipes! This is good even without the Parmesan, if you like a cheesy sauce then, also 3 minced garlic cloves may be added with the mushrooms --- I most always use this sauce with my recipe #149540 though it's great with anything :)

3 -4 cups sliced button mushrooms
2 -3 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup butter
2 1/2 cups chicken stock or 2 1/2 cups broth
1/2 cup white wine (or use 3 cups chicken stock instead of the wine)
1/2 cup whipping cream
3 -4 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese (or to taste) (optional)
salt and pepper

Steps:

  • Saute the mushrooms in a couple tablespoon butter until they loose their moisture and are just beginning to brown (about 10-12 minutes) set aside.
  • In a medium saucepan cook the butter and flour over medium-high heat, whisking constantly until the mixture turns a light golden color (about 6-7 minutes).
  • Whisk in the stock and wine, stirring until the mixture thickens.
  • Lower heat and simmer for about 12-15 minutes.
  • Add in the cream, and Parmesan cheese (if using) whisk until combined, then add in sauteed mushrooms; simmer for additional 5-7 minutes, or until the sauce coats the back of the spoon.
  • Season with salt and pepper.

3 tablespoons butter
2 shallots, minced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 (4 ounce) package sliced button mushrooms
1 tablespoon minced fresh rosemary
6 tablespoons white wine, divided
1 cup heavy cream
sea salt to taste
ground black pepper to taste
1 teaspoon grated Parmesan cheese, or to taste

Steps:

  • Heat butter in a heavy-bottomed pan over medium heat until foamy; cook and stir shallots and garlic in the melted butter for 3 minutes. Add mushrooms and rosemary; stir to coat, 1 minute.
  • Pour 1/4 cup white wine into mushroom mixture; cook and stir until mushrooms are golden brown, 3 to 5 minutes. Increase heat to medium-high; add cream and 2 tablespoons white wine. Cook and stir until gravy is creamy and thick, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper; sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.

1 1/2 lbs ground beef
2 eggs
1/2 cup instant rice or 1/2 cup cooked rice
1/2 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon Kitchen Bouquet
chopped onion
2 tablespoons flour
1 cup cracker crumb
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 (8 ounce) can cream of mushroom soup
0.5 (8 ounce) can water
1 (8 ounce) can milk

Steps:

  • Mix together the meatball ingredients (listed at the top) and form 2.5-3 inch meatballs. put them in an oven acceptable baking dish.
  • Pour the mushroom soup into a pan, use the soup can to measure out 1/2 can of water, and 1 can of milk.
  • Put the water and milk in the saucepan.
  • Stir these three ingredients over medium heat, until all the lumps are out, and the gravy is smooth.
  • Pour the gravy over the meatballs,
  • cover the dish with aluminum foil and cook the meatballs at 350 degrees for one hour (depending on your oven, you might want to break one open to assure its done)
  • Serve with mashed potatoes and steamed veggies!
