Deep Fried Mushroom Recipe image

Crispy, crunchy and oh so good! Lightly battered button mushrooms deep fried to golden perfection

Number Of Ingredients 8

10 - 12 large white button mushrooms; trimmed and sliced into 1/4 inch slices
1/2 cup of all purpose flour
1 tsp. pepper
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups Italian seasoned bread crumbs
oil for frying (approx. 3 cups)
1/4 cup mayonnaise
3 Tbsp. favorite hot sauce

Steps:

  • Heat oil over medium heat in a heavy bottom pan (like a cast iron) Place flour and pepper into a shallow dish and stir. Set aside Add eggs to another shallow bowl and beat them. Place breadcrumbs into a third shallow dish and set aside. Dredge each mushroom slice into the flour, followed by a dip into the egg and then into the breadcrumbs. Working in small batches, deep fry the mushrooms until golden brown. Drain on a paper towel.
  • Mix together the mayo and hot sauce and serve with the deep fried mushrooms.

1 pkg prewashed button mushrooms
1 1/2 c all purpose flour
1 c milk
1 large egg
salt and pepper to taste
cooking oil

Steps:

  • 1. Combine egg and milk in a small mixing bowl.
  • 2. Combine flour, salt, and pepper in another small mixing bowl.
  • 3. Dip mushrooms into egg/milk mixture. Roll in flour mixture to coat thoroughly. Dip in milk mixture again, and roll in flour mixture again.
  • 4. Fry in a deep fat fryer at 375 degrees until golden brown.
  • 5. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.

8 -10 ounces whole white mushrooms
3/4 cup flour
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1 cup Italian seasoned breadcrumbs

Steps:

  • Wash the mushrooms and remove most of the stem.
  • Pat mushrooms dry with a paper towel.
  • Coat mushrooms with flour, lightly tap to remove excess flour.
  • Dip in eggs.
  • Coat with bread crumbs.
  • Set on a rack for a few minutes, so batter sets/dries.
  • Heat the oil in the deep fryer to 375 degrees. Pay close attention to grease while it heats. Cooking with oil at high heat levels can be dangerous!
  • Deep fry mushrooms in batches for approximately 3- 4 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Drain on paper towels and serve.

1 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons sugar
1 tablespoon cooking oil
1 cup water (or less)
1 lb button mushroom

Steps:

  • Combine flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  • Put oil in a 1 cup measure and add water to the 3/4 cup mark.
  • Make well in centre of dry ingredients and pour in the water-oil mixture.
  • Stir together, adding as much of the remaining 1/4 cup of water as you need to make a batter of the correct consistency to coat the mushrooms.
  • Stir until smooth.
  • Heat cooking oil in deep fryer.
  • Dip mushrooms in batter and drop in hot oil.
  • Cook a few minutes until nicely browned.
  • Remove with a slotted spoon to a wire rack with paper towels beneath it to catch the oil drips.
  • Repeat with remaining mushrooms until all are fried.

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1 egg
1 cup water
1 pound button mushrooms, quartered
2 cups oil for frying, or as needed

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, stir together the flour and garlic salt. Mix in egg and water until smooth.
  • Heat the oil in a large deep skillet over medium-high heat. Test to see if oil is hot by frying a drop of batter. If it sizzles and floats to the top, the oil is ready.
  • Dip mushrooms into the batter and then place in the hot oil. Fry a few at a time so they are not crowded, until golden brown, 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from oil with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

I grew up eating these fried mushrooms and they always bring up great memories of growing up in Zimbabwe. Here is my mom's recipe, it makes a great snack!

1 cup all-purpose flour
½ cup cornstarch
¾ teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon garlic salt
1 cup water
1 (10 ounce) package whole fresh mushrooms
2 cups panko bread crumbs
2 cups vegetable oil for frying, or as needed

Steps:

  • Mix flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and garlic salt together in a large bowl. Add water and mix until batter is smooth.
  • Dip mushrooms into the batter and coat evenly. Allow excess batter to drip off. Roll mushrooms in bread crumbs until thoroughly coated.
  • Heat oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 365 degrees F (185 degrees C).
  • Deep-fry mushrooms in batches until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
