This recipe is variation on alligirl's Simple Chocolate Chess Pie #357944. This pie enriched with apples and walnuts.

2 eggs
1 1/4 cups sugar
1/4 cup milk
60 g bittersweet chocolate, melted (2 ounces)
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 pie crust (for 26cm/10 inch pie pan)
3 apples (thinly sliced)
1/3 cup walnuts

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 180°C (350º) (heat and timing are basing it on convection oven).
  • Prick pie crust and par- bake for 5 minutes.
  • Beat eggs well.
  • Add sugar and beat again.
  • Add milk, vanilla, chocolate and butter and mix well again.
  • Pour apple, walnuts and finally the chocolate mix into pie crust.
  • Bake at 180°C (350º) for 30-35 minutes or until pie begins to crack on top.

1/4 cup unsalted butter
1 cup bittersweet chocolate chips, divided
3 eggs
3/4 firmly packed golden brown sugar
2/3 cup dark corn syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/3 cups Diamond of California® toasted shelled walnuts
1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust

Steps:

  • Position rack in lower third of the oven and preheat to 375°F. Stir the butter and 1/3 cup of the chocolate chips in a heavy small saucepan over low heat until melted and smooth. Cool until warm. Beat the eggs, sugar, corn syrup, vanilla and salt in a medium bowl until blended. Whisk in the butter mixture. Stir in the walnut pieces and the remaining 2/3 cup chocolate chips. Pour the filling into the pie crust. Bake until filling is set and crust is golden brown, about 45 minutes. Cool. (Pie can be prepared 1 day ahead. Cover loosely and keep at room temperature.)

pastry for a double-crust 9-inch pie, unbaked
6 medium apples
12 tablespoons granulated sugar (the pie is not extremely sweet, so if you're used to very sweet things or your apples are tart, don')
2/3 cup semisweet chocolate, pellets

Steps:

  • Peel, core and quarter apples. Slice very thinly.
  • Place 1 layer of apple slices on the bottom crust. Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons (or to taste) of sugar. Repeat twice.
  • Spread chocolate pellets over top.
  • With remaining apples, make 3 more apple/sugar layers.
  • Top with 2nd crust and seal edges. Make an incision on the top.
  • Bake in preheated oven at 450F for 15 minutes, or until golden.
  • Lower heat to 350F and continue baking for another 25-30 minutes, or until apples are tender.

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the walnuts, brown sugar, egg, milk, 1 tablespoon butter, vanilla and 1/4 teaspoon lemon juice. Line a 9-in. pie plate with bottom pastry; trim even with edge of plate. Spread nut mixture over crust., In a large bowl, toss apples with remaining lemon juice. Combine the sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt; toss with apples. PIE INGREDIENTS
1/3 c butter, softened at room temperature
1 1/2 c sugar
3 1 oz each, unsweetened baking chocolate, melted (3 oz total)
3 eggs, lightly beaten
3/4 c all-purpose unbleached flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/3 c milk
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 medium red delicious apple, peeled, cored amd thinly sliced
1/3 c caramel topping
1/2 c chopped walnuts
TOPPING INGREDIENTS
1 small red delicious apple, cored and sliced
1/2 c chopped walnuts
1/3 c caramel topping

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9-inch pie plate with baking spray. Set aside.
  • 2. In large bowl of an electric mixer, beat butter until creamy. Gradually add sugar, beating until and fluffy.
  • 3. Add melted chocolate and eggs, beat until incorporated.
  • 4. Add in flour and salt. Slowly add in milk and vanilla,. Beat incorporating into mixture.
  • 5. With a wooden spoon, fold in thinly sliced apple, 1/3 cup caramel topping, and 1/2 cup chopped walnuts.
  • 6. Pour mixture into prepared pie plate. Bake 40-45 minutes, or until when a toothpick inserted in pie comes out clean. Cool slightly.
  • 7. For topping: Arrange slices of small apple on top of pie, fanning out, and sprinkle 1/2 cup chopped walnuts over top. Pour 1/3 cup caramel topping over apple slices and top of pie.
