Hot Spiced Cider Tea image

A lovely hot spiced cider and tea beverage infused with cinnamon, black peppercorns, cloves, cardamom, fresh ginger, star anise and citrus. Perfect for a chilly autumn or winters eve.

2 cinnamon sticks
5 whole black peppercorns
2 whole cloves
3 whole cardamom pods
2 whole star anise pods
5 coin-size pieces fresh ginger
2 inches strips fresh orange peel
2 inches strips fresh lemon peel
5 cups cold water
4 bags orange-pekoe tea
3 cups apple juice or 3 cups apple cider
1 orange, juice of

Steps:

  • Lightly crush the cinnamon, peppercorns, cloves, and cardamom pods in a mortar and pestle or on a cutting board with the bottom of a saucepan.
  • Transfer the spices to a medium saucepan, add the ginger, star anise and citrus peels. Add the water. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat, and simmer, partially covered, until aromatic, and the cinnamon stick opens a little, about 10 minutes.
  • Add the tea bags to the pan and immediately remove from the heat. Set aside to steep for 3 to 4 minutes. Remove the tea bags, and add the apple juice and orange juice. Return the pan to a medium heat and warm, taking care not to let the tea boil.
  • Strain and serve hot.

1 cinnamon stick
¼ teaspoon salt
1 pinch ground nutmeg
1 large orange, quartered with peel
2 quarts apple cider

Steps:

  • Place filter in coffee basket, and fill with brown sugar, allspice, cloves, cinnamon stick, salt, nutmeg, and orange wedges. Pour apple cider into coffee pot where the water usually goes. Brew, and serve hot.

2 black tea bags
2 cups apple cider
4 packets Sweet'N Low® granulated sugar substitute
2 long cinnamon sticks, for garnish

Steps:

  • Place the cinnamon stick, cloves, and peppercorns in a medium saucepan. Add 2 cups water. Bring to a boil, cover, and simmer for 5 minutes. Off the heat, add the tea bags and steep, covered, for 5 minutes. Remove the tea bags.
  • Add the cider and Sweet'N Low to the spiced tea and warm over medium heat until Spiced Cider Tea is steaming hot. Divide between two mugs and serve, garnished with a long cinnamon stick, if desired.

3 tea bags
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 ground cloves
2 -3 tablespoons sugar
1/4 orange juice
2 tablespoons lemon juice
4 orange slices (to garnish)

Steps:

  • Bring water to boiling in a saucepan.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Add the teabags.
  • Cover and steep 3-5 minutes.
  • Remove bags.
  • Stir in spices and sugar. Stir until sugar is dissolved.
  • Simmer one minute longer.
  • Add juices.
  • Pour into 4 glasses. Garnish with orange slices.
