KENTUCKY BOURBON MULE
Nothing makes the Moscow mule a classic American darling than bourbon. Great bourbons are born in Kentucky and bred from the finest American corn. This Moscow mule recipe uses good Kentucky bourbon that compliments ginger beer with vanilla notes for an extra-boozy kick.

- Dead Man’s Mule is one of a trio of cocktail recipes on this post from the blog Death to Sour Mix. The deft mix of aromatic liquors makes for quite the sophisticated sipper — it includes absinthe, orgeat, and St. Elizabeth Allspice Dram, a spice-infused rum.
- The Moscow Mule variation at Loving Cup is topped off with pilsner beer and garnished with a sprig of mint.
- Elana at Stir and Strain shares her recipe for Lemon Rosemary Syrup, then uses it in a refreshing Meyer Lemon Rosemary Sparkler.
- Difford’s Guide has over 3,000 cocktail recipes. Their formidable collection includes a recipe for the French Mule, notably including Cognac V.S.O.P.
- If you live in Denver, CO, you’re in luck — Viewhouse has just debuted an entire mule menu! We would love to try some of these, especially the Angry Mule, which includes hard cider and cinnamon whiskey.
- If you find yourself in New Orleans, hit up Lucky Rooster for their mule variation. A fixture on their spring drink menu, Juan’s Donkey includes Russell Henry Hawaiian White Ginger Gin and lemongrass ginger syrup.
- And finally, my personal favorite: The Kensington Zinger, a mule I’ve enjoyed on more than one occasion at Jones bar in San Francisco. Read their menu description and try not to be intrigued: “If London’s royal residence were to have a house drink, this is what would be served: A Belvedere cocktail with a house-made ginger and jalapeno syrup to give it the zing, along with lemon juice and ginger beer.”

- Smirnoff Vodka. Smirnoff is basically where the drink Moscow Mule started, and it is considered the original vodka to be used in this drink. There are Smirnoff flavored vodkas, but the one that’s mostly used is the classic N. 21.
- Tito’s Handmade Vodka. Most people highly recommend and use Tito’s Vodka as their go-to whenever they make a Moscow Mule. It is made in Austin, Texas, and is certified gluten-free.
- Absolut Elyx Vodka. You may have heard of Absolut vodka, but the Absolut Elyx is a whole new level. Every drop is a luxurious blend of winter wheat from Southern Sweden, crafted in a vintage copper column since 1921.
- Hangar 1 Vodka. Hangar 1 vodka is made near San Francisco in an old aircraft hangar, hence its name. Unlike other vodkas crafted in column stills, Hangar 1 is made in tiny Holstein pot stills, giving its unique flavor.
- Luksusowa Vodka. In the vodka world of wheat, Luksusowa uses good ol' potatoes. The name itself is Polish for “luxury,” so it already hints out that this is a good one.
- Prairie Organic Vodka. If you want to experience a burst of flavors when drinking vodka, the perfect choice would be Prairie Organic vodka from Minnesota, USA.
8 MOSCOW MULE RECIPES TO ADD TO YOUR MUST-TRY COCKTAIL ...
From sheknows.com
- Moscow mule. The trick to making a great Moscow mule is using ginger beer, not ginger ale, which is much sweeter and lacks the spicy ginger kick of ginger beer.
- Skinny mule. This is the slender, aromatic sister to the original. Omitting the ginger beer cuts out the sugar, and adding fresh ginger provides flavor as well as a host of health benefits.
- Summer mule. Adding fresh berries boosts the existing flavors and creates a beautiful color. I like to cut back on the ginger beer to allow the berries to really shine through.
- Spicy mule. I used about 3-4 slices of jalapeño per cocktail, but I’m a wimp when it comes to spicy food so feel free to adjust the heat level to your liking.
- Long Island mule. Inspired by the Long Island iced tea, this mule packs a punch. It is definitely strong, but it’s surprisingly light and delicious. Ingredients
- Lavender mule. This drink is sophisticated and whimsical at the same time. I love the combination of lavender, lemon and elderflower; it’s floral, fragrant and delightful!
- Citrus mule. The combination of juices creates a tart and refreshing drink; feel free to switch in other types of citrus like blood oranges, clementines or Meyer lemons depending on the season.
- Moscow mule Jell-O shots. Here’s one more way of enjoying Moscow mules: a grown-up Jell-O shot. I made these for a party six months ago and I’m still getting requests for them.

- Old Fashioned. Just as the name suggests, the Bourbon Old Fashioned is quite an old drink. In fact, it can be connected to the first recorded definition of a cocktail over 200 years ago, which called for spirits, sugar, water, and bitters.
- Negroni. As the story goes, the Negroni was invented in a bar in Florence in the early 20th century by Italian Count Camillo Negroni. He asked the bartender to strengthen his cocktail, an Americano, so the bartender replaced the soda water with gin and added an orange peel instead of the Americano's typical lemon peel.
- Daiquiri. Daiquiris can get a bad rep for being fruity slushies that you only drink on the beach. But this Cuban rum cocktail was a favorite of some of America's biggest names — including President John F. Kennedy and Ernest Hemmingway.
- Dry Martini. A James Bond favorite, the Dry Martini is simple and elegant. While we don't know the exact origin story of the Dry Martini, we do know that the cocktail made with dry gin, dry vermouth, and orange bitters is best served with a lemon twist.
- Margarita. The Margarita originated in Mexico and sparks a lot of debate about the way it's served. Whether you like it with or without a salt rim, frozen or on the rocks, or with triple sec, Cointreau, or Grand Marnier, you can't go wrong with a classic Margarita.
- Espresso Martini. Straight from London, the Espresso Martini is sure to get you buzzing with a shot of espresso, coffee-flavored liqueur, and vodka. This smooth cocktail is a great after-dinner pick-me-up, and you can use espresso, strong coffee, or cold brew to get that caffeine boost.
- Whiskey Sour. The first printed recipe for a Whiskey Sour appeared in the Jerry Thomas Bartenders Guide, which was the first-ever cocktail book released in 1862.
- Manhattan. The Manhattan has been famous since its alleged invention in the late 1800s in New York City's Manhattan Club. We may not know who invented the once-exclusive cocktail, but it is now a common cocktail served worldwide.
- Aperol Spritz. Served as an aperitivo, a light pre-meal drink, the Aperol Spritz originated in Italy in 1919. While you'd find Europeans enjoying this cocktail with Aperol, bubbly wine, and sparkling water ever since, the Aperol Spritz didn't make it big in the U.S. until the 2010s.
- Mojito. Dating back to 16th-century Cuba, the Mojito — made from rum, lime, mint, and sugar — was supposedly consumed for medicinal purposes. Eventually, it became known as the Mojito, as it first appeared in the 1932 edition of Sloppy Joe's Bar Cocktails Manual.
