VODKA-SOAKED CHERRY TOMATOES



Vodka-Soaked Cherry Tomatoes image

A novelty nibble for adults! Once made, the remaining liquid can be drunk as shots - or used as a base for an excellent Bloody Mary. Easily mutiplyed for a crowd to get people in the mood for a party!

16 cherry tomatoes
2/3 cup chili-infused vodka
1/2 lemon, juice of
1 tablespoon dry sherry
6 drops Tabasco sauce
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
celery salt, to taste

Steps:

  • Prick the tomatoes all over with a toothpick. Soak the tomatoes in a mixture of the next seven ingredients.
  • Chill until ready to eat.
  • Serve to your guests on toothpicks and the celery salt for dipping.

2 cups gin or 2 cups vodka
1/2 cup dry vermouth
4 pints cherry tomatoes or 4 pints grape tomatoes
1 (15 ounce) jar pearl cocktail onions, drained and liquid reserved
1 (15 ounce) jar stuffed queen olives, drained and liquid reserved
1/2 cup reserved cocktail onion juice
1/2 cup reserved olive juice
2 limes, juice of
2 limes, zest of
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cracked black pepper

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in a large bowl.
  • (Slice tomatoes in half if they are larger than bite-size.) Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  • Adjust seasonings before serving if necessary.
  • Serve with cocktail picks.
  • Note: Artichoke hearts or spicy boiled shrimp may also be added to marinade.

Drunken Tomato/Bloody Mary image

These tomatoes are really good as an appetizer, but I wasn't sure what to do with the vodka once all of the vegetables were gone. You can really use it in any Bloody Mary recipe, but this is my dad's and although I've always had it sans alcohol, the flavored vodka gives it a nice garlicky fresh taste! P.S. These Bloody Marys are HOT!

cherries or grape tomatoes
pimento stuffed olive
banana pepper, sliced
cilantro
fresh garlic
any type vodka (sometimes pepper flavored is too strong)
Tabasco sauce
hot sauce (I use Louisiana)
banana pepper, juice (if it's on hand)
pickle juice
dill
celery salt
salt
pepper
v 8 vegetable juice or tomato juice
Worcestershire sauce

Steps:

  • In the bottom of each container place 1-2 cloves of garlic and a sprig of cilantro along with 5-6 olives and some slices of pepper.
  • With a bamboo skewer or knife poke holes in the end of the tomatoes and pack as many into the container as possible leaving a 1/2 inch breathing room on the top of the containers.
  • Just cover the tomato mixture with vodka and let stand in refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
  • BLOODY MARY - makes one glass: 6-12 shakes of Tabasco (I like it hot), 6-12 shakes hot sauce, 2 teaspoons pickle juice, 2 teaspoons pepper juice, 4-5 shakes Worcestershire sauce, dill, celery salt, salt and pepper to taste. Fill glass with V-8 and enjoy!
