Time 55m

Number Of Ingredients 8

4 cups fresh blueberries (cleaned and stems removed)
1 cup sugar (divided)
1 cup orange juice
1/2 cup salted butter (cold and cut into small cubes (about 1/4 inch))
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup flour*
1 teaspoon baking powder*
Pinch of salt*

Steps:

  • Ingredients marked with * can be pre-measured and mixed at home.
  • In a large non-reactive bowl, combine the blueberries, 1/4 cup sugar and orange juice, tossing gently to mix and set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the butter, 3/4 cup sugar, vanilla, flour, baking powder and salt then set aside.
  • Preheat a 12 inch cast iron Dutch oven to bake at 350 degrees (25 total coals = 17 top / 8 bottom).
  • If you are using a different sized oven, check our Dutch oven temperature chart to see how many coals you need. https://www.campingforfoodies.com/dutch-oven-temperature-chart/
  • You can bake this dessert right in your Dutch oven or you can use a liner. Here are tips on how to use Dutch oven liners. https://www.campingforfoodies.com/how-to-use-dutch-oven-liners/
  • Pour the blueberry mixture into the pre-heated Dutch oven.
  • Drop the topping on top of the berries, about 1 tablespoon each and scatter them evenly over the berries.
  • Bake at 350 degrees covered until the berries are bubbly and the cobbler is cooked through ... this will take approximately 40 - 50 minutes. Camp Cooking Tip: Make sure you turn the oven and lid in opposite directions about 1/4 turn every 15 minutes or so for even baking.
  • Remove the Dutch oven from the coals, uncover it and let this yummy camping blueberry cobbler cool slightly before serving it.
  • This cobbler is really tasty as it is but you can also add a dollop of fresh whipped cream or scoop of vanilla ice cream to make it extra special.

Provided by Fresh Off The Grid

Time 55m

Number Of Ingredients 12

3 cups fresh Oregon blueberries
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon flour
Juice & zest from ½ lemon (about 1 tablespoon juice)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup flour ((140g))
¼ cup sugar ((60g))
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
¼ cup butter (cold)

Steps:

  • Combine the filling ingredients (blueberries, sugar, flour, juice and zest of half a lemon, cinnamon) in a bowl and toss to coat.
  • Place the blueberry mixture into a lined 4-qt Dutch oven.
  • To make the topping: combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in the bowl and stir to mix. Add the butter and mix and mash with a fork or your hands until the flour and butter come together into pea sized pieces. Add the milk and stir to combine.
  • Drop the topping batter across the blueberries.
  • Cover the Dutch oven and place on a bed of 7 coals, adding 14 to the lid of the oven.
  • Cook for 40-45 minutes, giving the oven and lid a ¼ turn every 15 minutes and adding new coals if they die out, until the topping is golden brown.
  • Remove from the heat and set aside, uncovered, to cool a touch before serving with whipped cream.

Provided by Janet Bowman

Categories     Desserts

Yield 8-10 servings

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 White Cake Mix
1-12 oz can of Sprite or 7-Up
4 c. fresh Blueberries or 2-21 oz cans Blueberry Pie Filling
1/4 cube Butter

Steps:

  • Coals: ~30. Light em up as you begin prep, or turn on your indoor oven to 375 degrees.
  • Spray down 12 inch Dutch oven with cooking spray, or wipe a little bit of oil on paper towel over surface.
  • Pour fruit or pie filling into the bottom of the Dutch Oven.
  • In a separate bowel, mix soda with cake mix. The batter will be lumpy.
  • Then pour over fruit and smooth batter across the surface.
  • Place dollops of butter around the top of cobbler.
  • Then bake with 18 coals on top, and 9 on bottom or at 375 degrees until cake is golden color and tests done with a clean toothpick. It usually takes around 40-45 minutes, but I start checking at about 30 minutes.
  • Serve warm out of the Dutch oven and top with ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
