These homemade au gratin potatoes are always welcome at our dinner table, and they're so simple to make. A perfect complement to ham, this homey potato gratin also goes well with pork, chicken and other entrees. -Cris O'Brien, Virginia Beach, Virginia

3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1-1/2 teaspoons salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
2 cups 2% milk
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
5 cups thinly sliced peeled potatoes (about 6 medium)
1/2 cup chopped onion
Additional pepper, optional

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°. In a large saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Stir in flour, salt and pepper until smooth. Gradually add milk. Bring to a boil; cook and stir 2 minutes or until thickened. Remove from heat; stir in cheese until melted. Add potatoes and onion., Transfer to a greased 2-qt. baking dish. Cover and bake 1 hour. Uncover; bake 30-40 minutes or until the potatoes are tender. If desired, top with additional pepper.

1 large egg
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
6 large russet potatoes (, peeled and sliced 1/4 inch thick)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees and spray an 8x8 baking dish with vegetable oil spray.
  • In a large bowl whisk together the heavy cream, egg, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, black pepper and Parmesan cheese until smooth.
  • Add potatoes to your baking dish and carefully pour the custard over the potatoes.
  • Bake, uncovered, for 45-50 minutes.

1 cup CHEEZ WHIZ Cheese Dip

Steps:

  • Place potatoes and water in 1-1/2-quart microwavable casserole dish; cover with lid. Microwave on HIGH 8 minutes; stir. Microwave an additional 6 to 8 minutes or until potatoes are tender; drain well.
  • Microwave CHEEZ WHIZ as directed on label.

¼ cup bread crumbs, divided
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease a 9-inch square baking pan with cooking spray.
  • Combine half-and-half, milk, salt, pepper, and garlic powder in a large saucepan; bring to a boil. Add potatoes and reduce heat to medium-low. Cover and simmer until the potatoes are tender, 10 to 15 minutes. Remove from heat.

2 1/2 lb potatoes, thinly sliced
1 medium white onion, thinly sliced
2 c heavy cream
8 oz sharp cheddar, shredded and divided
1/4 c all-purpose flour
salt and pepper, to taste
1 c grated Romano cheese

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Peel and slice potatoes very thin. Slice onions thin as well. Place them both in a large mixing bowl.
  • 2. Add to the potato and onions, 2 cups of heavy cream, flour, and 1 cup of sharp cheddar cheese. Salt and pepper to taste. Toss until completely mixed.
  • 3. Spray a shallow baking dish with non-stick spray. Transfer the mixture to the baking dish and spread out evenly.
  • 4. Top with remaining cup of shredded cheddar and Romano cheeses.
  • 5. Bake about 45 to 50 minutes until potatoes are tender and the top is nicely browned.
